Dark Legions: Traditionals

This is the section I am most excited for. I have always had a fascination with traditional Halloween, and from the constrcution pics posted in the Construction forum, the set up for it seems the most promising to me, of the ones poseted of course.

I'm the same way, traditional Halloween has always appealed to me. Give me jack-o-lanterns, trick or treaters, ghosts, grave stones, witches, black cats and the like and I'm a happy camper. And what's odd is it's so rare to see any traditional Halloween oriented decorations or concepts integrated into events like HHN. Although I have to say, they've really improved upon this area over the past several years. Give me the tree pumpkins that are up in Kid Zone every year and you've made me happy!

I'm honestly most excited about this legion as well. I'm a big fan of Halloween, and finally getting to experience something directly tied to Halloween at HHN makes me excited. Between this and the Universal Monsters house, the end of October can't come fast enough. I wonder if they'll complete the awesomeness and give me a scarecrow or two?

Yes! Hush and Boogey, your ideas are awesome! This is something they can for sure pull off nicely. Though, the thing I hope to see the most is maybe old-fashioned trick or treaters. Those old Halloween constumes are so chilling and eerie. Overall, I think this section will have a nice assorment of characters.

I think back to the costumes that were available when I was younger (we're talking the 70's here) they were the ones with the plastic face masks that had just the openings for your eyes, nostrils and mouth...looking back, those were creepy as hell. I agree, the old costumes it looks like they'll be using in this area have an extra special "oh shit" factor to them!

I absolutely agree. Forget Freddy and Jason. These costumes are terrifying:

I had to laugh when I saw this picture because you are absolutely right! Whoever would've thought that a pillowcase with some holes cut in it would be more frightening than a maniac with knives on his fingers?

I think it's because of the fact that the costumes are so non-descriptive and ambiguous that you really have no idea who, or what, could be under there. It's why Sam from Trick r' Treat works so well with such a simple costume (which I hope you're able to watch this weekend, Lyn :) )

And I know he's non-Universal IP, but if they did an "homage" character of him, it would be the icing on the cake of this scare zone.

^They did the whole Trick-R-Treat style costumes for 2008's "The Skoolhouse" scarezone. That is probably the closest you'll see to them having any type of homage to that character.

This is what annoys me about the park in general. They'll make SOME effort for Xmas & Mardi Gras, but apparently HHN is supposed to count as our "halloween decor" :chainsaw:

It'd be nice to see tombstones in the grassy area near the lagoon back by MIB. cobwebs on the windows/door frames. Giant spiders. Fall leaves on the light poles. MORE jack-o-lanterns.... just decorate the park. /rant

Just because they did it once, doesn't mean they can't do it again. :) Besides, wasn't more specifically tied to the school children from the film than Sam himself? Sam's a Halloween demigod, he'd fit right in this year.

Agreed 100%! My guess is that because HHN costs so much to operate, they focus more on that than general park dressing. But I'd love to see some general decorating as well, along with some spooky characters walking around the park. During the day, you can't even tell it's October if it weren't for the bit of HHN SZ dressing.

He made that movie! Haha. And I agree with what you said about it being the vagueness of the constumes which creates the eerieness of it.

I also agree that there should be more autumn/Halloween decorations. Florida lacks the 4 seasons, and not being born in Florida, I feel like the look of the color in the leaves really helps to create the mood of Halloween. It would be nice if they would do that, haha.

I didn't say they couldn't do it again. I was pointing out that they had loosely based the SZ on the movie. And of course it was the "children", the SZ was tied into the Bloody Mary backstory. But like I said, you missed my initial point. They have the old-style costumes, so it would not be surprising to see them used.

Like I mentioned back in the spec thread, there should be "pretty" & "bloody" versions within this SZ. Not sure exactly how this will play out though.

Nope, this is what I was responding to. No mention there of recycling. Perhaps the intent you meant with your initial point was unclear, as it reads to me that the Skoolhouse SZ in 2008 was the closest we'll ever see to seeing something from that film.

At any rate, I'm very curious to see how this SZ plays out. And I'm really hoping the do shirts, hat, pins or something of the different Legions because unless we're off about this legion, I'm ready to show my support! :)

We walked through Kid Zone today and at least we get our jack-o-lanterns in the trees over there along with some of the larger stand up ones too with a few crows to boot.

There are what look like mausoleum entrance doors close to MIB with more crows too.

This is what annoys me about the park in general. They'll make SOME effort for Xmas & Mardi Gras, but apparently HHN is supposed to count as our "halloween decor" :chainsaw:

Amen to every word of that...I'm just so old school when it comes to Halloween decor that it pains me to not see more of it at a Halloween event! I always thought with all the row house facades it would be neat to see jack-o-lanterns in the windows of a few of the houses. And of course, just more outright Halloween oriented decorations throughout the park.

EXACTLY! You walk through the park during Mardi Gras or Christmas and the amount of decor reflecting both is readily apparent. They just need to hit up the Dollar Store, think of all the decorations Universal could buy there...LOL

Plastic only, please! I'm more than a little trepidatious for what may be awaiting in Alice's place for that reason! Rats are cuddly and adorable, snakes are awesome and amazing. Spiders? Peein' again.

You and me both! I'm fine with fake spiders or real spiders from afar. But put me next to a real one, and it's a whole other story.

I shouldn't have to flat out say the costumes would be recycled. And I was referring to the character Sam as the closest thing you'll see from the movie. Next time i'll just draw you a diagram and include charts & graphs with a full blown description.

I'm very curious to see this whole zone in its complete glory...I think this is going to appeal to all of us who really dig that traditional Halloween vibe.

LOL Lyn! Spider webs and little plastic spiders EVERYWHERE!

I know right? Come on...with the budget Universal has, the Dollar Store is the mecca of decor stores.

Rats, fine with 'em. Snakes, fine with 'em. Hell, even spiders, yes, fine with 'em. But if you put silverfish in a maze, I would go freaking bat shit crazy.

Dude, relax. This event is a fun thing, and not something anyone should take so seriously. It sounds like you and I are arguing for the same point, so let's just leave it at that, lighten up a bit, and enjoy the rest of the pre-show!

Making bigger versions of the banners.

Here is the Traditionals Banner:

Very cool!

Maybe instead of a circus tent over the whole park, they can put spider webs over the whole park. And a paper skeleton in every window! And don't get me started on silverfish. They will have to escort me out for trying to smash every last one of their "props." :)

I think I'm seriously going to LOVE this zone. I was head over heels in love with The Skoolhouse in 2008, and I'm thinking this one will be like a more intense/twisted version of that zone. I've always loved the atmosphere of neighborhoods during Halloween...all the cool decorations and costumes. In fact, it would be cool if some of the scareactors had candy that they would try to lure us in with.....I think I'd seriously scream with joy. I do so miss my trick-or-treating days. I can't even take a stroll through my halloween-ized neighborhood anymore cuz I'm stuck in college.

Don't say that or the next rumor we hear will be "Did you hear there is going to be a freaking huge spider web over the entire park? I hear they are buying it at the Dollar Store!"

If they ever had a house called "Silverfish" I wouldn't be able to even step foot inside it. I can handle every bug and creepy crawly out there, but those things. You kill them and they disintegrate...WTF is up with that?!!
