I'm a little curious about something...

Not sure if I should turn this into a full-on thread or not, but what would you all say is proper ediquette for asking scareactors to take pictures with you?

The first thing is to have your camera ready. Not all actors will take pictures (some SMs are more lenient than others, but some just outright tell their actors to deny pictures), but the ones that do are told to just move on if the person doesn't have their camera ready to go. If you have to dig into your bag or turn it on or unlock your phone and search for the camera app, do it BEFORE asking for a photo.

Don't ask if the actor looks like he's ready to go for a scare. If he's wandering and looking for his next target, go ahead. But if he's already targeted someone and is moving in (or already interacting with someone), have patience and wait.

Be polite and don't put hands on him/her. Some (like myself) don't really mind putting an arm around, but some will react badly to touching. ESPECIALLY don't try to pull the actor into a photo or try to physically stop them from moving. I try to be nice about photos and will occasionally wait for someone to turn their camera on by interacting with them or the group, but the moment you grab me to get me to stay, I'm leaving. If you keep tugging, I'm dragging you right to a coordinator so you can get threatened with ejection. Count yourself lucky that I didn't get any rougher.

On the "be polite" thing, don't shout at the actor or insult him/her if they walk away. If you're not ready, I may be willing to stop for a quick photo a second time if you're prepared, but the moment you start shouting or following me around or calling me an asshole (which has happened several times), I'm done with you for the rest of the night period. I won't even scare you.

Make sure you get the one good picture you want. We expect flash, but nobody wants to waste valuable scare time waiting for someone to get a pic that isn't blurry because they didn't focus or forgot to do it in a well-lit area. Very, VERY few actors are willing to sit still any longer than it takes for one photo. If you don't know the actor, you should consider yourself lucky to get anything.

I know this all sounds harsh, but it's the best way to get a picture out of a cast. The Iniquitus are placed to absorb all the people who think the streets are a big photo op, but we still deal with every manner of asshole and weirdo you could ever think of. A lot of scareactors are also quite hostile toward the idea of stopping for pictures or even posing for a few seconds for a lucky camera angle. Be nice, be quick, and you may get something.

If you get a picture with me, also, prepare to have your bubble violated. I like to react in character to everything, so I respond to picture requests by lunging until I'm within inches of the person I'm posing with and growling and breathing on them. It makes for great pictures when they look genuinely terrified, and I've actually gotten out of several pics by scaring the person so badly that they fail to get out their camera or simply run away in fear.

As I've lived in Orlando the past 16 years and work in hotels, I know a lot of higher ups at UO. I've been informed (take it for whatever it's worth) that they are purposely overselling tickets this year in order to gauge demand. Demand for what? That I have no idea. I like to think in hopes that they want to go back to two parks next year and need to see if the demand is there for it (it obviously is).

It would explain a lot if that's the case, crowd wise, that is.

My worry is that they're raking in th dough this year. It's hard for any business to cut revenue streams like that once they see them on quarterly reports.

Another rough night on our scareactors-We noticed incidents in a row. Beasts in hollywood 930- not sure what happened, but boy did OC cuff him fast. One of the beasts we had been interacting with came up to us shaking his head. He pointed to us-gave a thumbs up, then pointed to handcuff boy and made a kicking motion toward park entrance. Then around 10, the white dress trick or treater (the one usually on stilts) took an accidental (I hope) elbow to the face. She was escorted back screaming in pain, it broke my heart to watch that...then the 1030 warriors Central Park set there was a ton of security converged in the main pathway, but it was too crowded to see what happened. Hope eveyone's ok! Stay safe!

I also noticed something going on with our vampires in Central Park - late, I guess sometime after midnight. I saw an actor running up to security/OPD, and then tons of people standing around trying to get a glimpse of what was going on. I didn't want to contribute to a gawker's block, so I moved on, but I really hope everyone is okay now and the culprit is apprehended, and toast. I've tried to address security attentiveness to our actors in surveys, and I hope they will ramp up do what they should to keep them safe. Only three more nights - I know we all love our weeks with you the scareactors, but your well-being is most important. Thank you for facing this crap that should never be in the first place, and watch your backs.

Wow, that's sad, and i'm sorry to hear that this is happening. Why would you pay the money that you do to get in just to be a dick like that? I echo the sentiments here. I hope security is helping everyone working the streets and houses stay as protected as they can to minimize incidents. I hope all the scareactors have a fun, and safe, final few nights.

A bit random but how bad do you think crowds will be tomorrow nite? I don't wanna dish out 60 bucks for fastpass, cash is tight now. If we are gonna be in the park during the day do you think we will have time to hit all the houses if we are already in the park when hhn starts?

If you're doing Stay and Scream, you will be able to get through all houses without issue. Crowds don't get bad till 8ish. I do expect it will be crowded since it's already been extended till 2 AM.

It might be that they are overselling the event, to see if there is a demand for a 7 days a week, all day HHN next year.

I really hope there's a valid reason behind it. It seems like the more crowded they allow it to be, the more alcohol is sold, the longer the lines get, the more impatient the drunks get and then it's putting scare actors in a dangerous environment.

that kind of sounds like more reasons for people to buy express passes. Like someone said it here before I don't remember who that the huge crowds and overselling of tickets only encourages people to just get more express passes.

- more alcohol being sold is not a bad thing. It is also where they make their money... the more people drink, the more food they eat.

- the lines get longer when they don't provide enough to compensate the guests (lack of an 8th house, lack of a ride that holds a lot of people, lack of shows etc)

- i don't appreciate the stereotype of drunks getting impatient. The sober guests & guests under the age of 21 get just as impatient, if not more so.

- the scareactors are in a dangerous environment when they get cast as scareactors. It comes with the job, they don't do it for the money.

I agree Wesker, well said. When I go, my group and myself drink. It actually helps the time in the long ass lines pass relatively quickly. If people who drink act like adults and are in control of their actions, it shouldn't be a problem. There will always be random issues with ppl who drink at an event this big, but there is also just as many issues with sober people.
