Anyone else might think that the new post on FB is a little suspicious? "Who is ready to meet their Luck in 3 days. Remember....the house always wins...your luck just ran out."

"The house always wins...Your luck just ran out." I don't know. Could be nothing, but It got me thinking of this scarezone. They mentioned, like always, "The HOUSE always wins" and then a variation of this scarezones title. lol maybe I just have an overactive imagination.

Stupid question I'm sure, but what exactly is the "house"? I've been confused by this for a while now haha

Not sure if you really wanted this question answered, but I'll bite and answer it anyway.

It's a gambling term to say that a casino/bookie/slot machine/etc has a built in advantage and, over time, will ALWAYS finish ahead of the player. They are the proverbial "House".

Yes, you could win $5,000 on a $0.25 slot machine in one pull, but it's still most likely a 95 - 99% payout machine meaning that in the long run, the machine will always make a 1 - 5% profit.

Think of something as simple as a roulette board. Betting RED or BLACK is a 50/50 bet, right? Betting ODD or EVEN is a 50/50 bet, right? Betting a row of numbers is 12-to-1 bet, right?

WRONG. You forget about the two green numbers, 0 and 00. They seem like fun bonus numbers, but over hundreds, if not thousands of spins a day, they help the house win money.

There's a reason casino's make money (so long as they don't piss it all away on shows and other stupid stuff that does't generate revenue). There's a reason why some slot machines are mandated by law to post the payouts on the machines. In NYS "Raceinos", gaming establishments at horse tracks that pay out in vouchers or on cards bypassing the anti-gambling laws of non-native american owned properties in NY State, all electronic games (table games aren't permitted) must state the payout percentage....and it's NEVER 100% or better. They have a special and always busy section of 99% slots which means that they have your best change of winning money. Little payouts...but if you think you can win big, just know that the one $5,000 winner means that a TON of other players only gambling $100 or so at a pop have to lose to get to that 99% number.

Look at any of the establishments bottom lines (just the gambling floor), and you will see that they, the House, ALWAYS win.

-----------------------------------------

EDIT - so how does this play into the event? Lady Luck is the proverbial "house". When you gamble by entering the event, she is the one controlling the odds...she is the house...and in the long run, she will always win. And like I outlined in the Roulette Wheel/Board example, you might think she doesn't have an advantage...but she really does. You might beat her in the short term, but in the end, she'll ALWAYS beat you because the odds are in her favor and she has all the time in the world to wait for your luck to run out.

This zone is much better walking from the Mummy side through to Mels side. I agree the fog makes it good but at the same time doesn't help us or the scare-actor in the chance of getting a scare or hitting someone. While I do like the regular lady lucks. They don't do much other than play with their hair or point. Truly I feel bad for them as scare-actors. Well where is the Wheel? we already know their is a perfect spot for it on the stage in the alley way. Maybe some vegas lights could have help this zone also. We shall see in time if it gets better.

I was really disappointed in this scarezone. Too small, not scary, terrible masks. I get what one person was saying about how there were hardly any scarezones just a few years ago but I guess I just expect more, especially when we've had some really great SZs the couple of years.

Your Luck Has Run Out

-While this zone is okay... man, it could've been so much better. And as an advocate for icons, I really wanted to love this zone.

-The Pretty Lucks are very well cast, but man, they just look bored to tears up there. In every picture they look like they're about to fall asleep. I know it isn't a particularly fun job to stand and look pretty, but a little enthusiasm would be appreciated

-Man, the Demon Lucks masks are HORRID. I seriously do not understand what happened. Was a prosthetic application impossible? If anything, something other than awful plastic mask? It's almost embarrassing how bad those masks are.

-The e-prompts here were unexpected and are pretty nice at startling you. The Demon Lucks are fairly good at getting some scares.

-Fog is really heavy... to the point of where you can't even see what little sets there are here.

-This doesn't feel related to chance or luck or gambling at all. There's those cards, but... meh, where's the roulette wheel?

-Where's the atmosphere? This zone is silent besides its "YAAA!" e-prompts. Why isn't "Luck Be a Lady" playing? That alone would help this zone a lot, IMO.

-Sometimes the minions are here, sometimes they're not. When they aren't, there's literally SIX ACTORS IN HERE. Acid has at least 15, Grown has at least 10-12, Seven has 21. And our "main attraction" gets 6 at times? Unacceptable. Minions need to be here all the time or the zone becomes a complete fail.

-I do like how in the day time, where scares are almost impossible, the Lucks allow for photo ops. Seems to be a good balance - photos by day, scares by night.

Suggestions for Improvement: This zone needs a lot of help. Short term solution is to get Luck Be a Lady playing. The Pretty Lucks need to be far more sinister and enthusiastic. Smile! I'd give the one nearest to Mummy a mic, too - there needs to be some narration here. At least give us recorded narration, if anything... The roulette wheel also needs to be included. I'd have built a stage like Saws'n'Steam with a bloodied mannequin hooked up to it at the New York Entrance, with a Lady Luck beckoning you in and spinning the wheel. Befuddles me why this wasn't included. Oh, and for god's sakes replace the Demon Luck masks. They're an absolute embarrassment.

The wheel was just added to the scarezone today and "Luck Be A Lady" does play but it's one of 3 songs.

That's great news! Can't wait to see how it's incorporated - I'm glad to hear that A&D is trying to make some improvements.

That has to be some of the quietest music I've ever heard, then. I spent a good amount of time in this zone and did not hear a single song being played. Volume needs to be cranked up.

I agree with everyone about the Demon Luck masks...

Anytime I show my friends pics of the event, I make sure to exclude any pics of those masks. In compared to the level of quality incorporated in everything else this year, it baffles me as to why they would skimp on the Icon's mask. I do like the mouth prosthetics, but from the mouth up is just absolutely horrid (and not in a good way).

I suppose the reasoning may have been "well, it'll be dark and foggy so nobody will really notice". Well when it's still light outside, holy hell they look awful and even in the dark with the fog, they still look pretty bad.
