OK just doing some research...

Eoin Colfer - wrote some fantasy books. I know one was The Arctic Incident. The Thing has been widely speculated this year and could be a clue to that...

Peter Falk was in a lot of movies. He was in a casino movie (Machine Gun McCain)... but he's been in detective shows. Dr. Jimmy noted Wings of Desire.

Steve Jobs.. The only thing I can think of would be apple. As in a literary reference to apples... like snow white or something.

Yeah, Jobs... I have nothing rational for that one. And I've been hoping that The Thing Prequel would get it's own house since I found out about it.

This is kind of separate, but what if private eyes and dicks are going to be used in some way this year? If there's a chance that we're getting some mob involvement, then I'd guess detectives aren't so far of a stretch for that time period as well.

OH SHIT!!!

A few things. The big one for me: Bloomberg mistakenly published an obituary or steve jobs at one point, and when rumors started going around that he died, he went on Apple's "key note" and said "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." quoting Mark Twain!

Colfer has a new novel coming out in the Fall of 2011 called "Plugged".

(wikipedia) Plugged, by Eoin Colfer, is an upcoming Noir/Crime Novel due for release in Fall of 2011. The first glimpse of a cover was shown in a 2011 interview on YouTube with Artemis Fowl Confidential. It is now up on Amazon and the publisher's webpage in a slightly revised format.

And as for Peter falk, he did Murder, Inc which is named after an actual gang in the 1920's.

(wikipedia) Murder, Inc. (or Murder Incorporated or the Brownsville Boys; known in syndicate circles as The Combination) was the name given by the press to organized crime groups in the 1920s through the 1940s that resulted in hundreds of murders on behalf of the American Mafia and Jewish Mafia groups who together formed the early organized crime groups in New York and elsewhere. The name was a journalistic invention.

True.... It was my first thought. He is also from Ireland if that means anything. I know we have runes...

Possible. If that is clue to the individual, then it would possibly be the same point for each person.

Every single year of HHN for the most part, involved death(s) Wings from the codes ( Angels and Demons have them ) Peter went to heaven and Steve will burn in hell for iProducts! lol All jokes aside what give you all the impression that there is more? Every year the vague clues are plain and simple.

Unless you go the other route Detective ( Boris ) + Computers / Devices and a writer. In that case LT is back ( Our mutual friend ) Which all has been discussed. An update next week? My intuition says yes.

Plus there is the name Himmel which is German for Heaven. And the Fall of Man symbolised by a bitten Apple.

I was actually thinking about the detective angle due to Colfer's use of Noir and Jobs apparently quoting Columbo's "...just one more thing". And I was hoping it would point to the Murders of the Rue Morgue, but alas HOS appears to be doing Poe this year.

The LT connection was also a thought. And hopefully that's it.

So your leaning towards a Heaven and Hell verdict Doctor? Also the clue is framed as a question, implying that it can be an inside thought. Kind of like when your in the store going over the items you need to purchase. I got the milk, waffles? check! Who would I talk to in heaven etc.

Same, I enjoy the LT involvement however still waters run deep and as far as LT goes its a 50 / 50 imo. Now Noir I like because that would place us in the 30's or so when we exit the Tardis. Run around in the haunted casino, solve the murder or DEATH and hitch a ride back to eat cookies with A&D. Case closed LT is the BOMB! Happy camper buy the XXI shirt.

Well the detective code name may just symbolize Boris like some people have been sayin theres a good possibility that they may come back

Boris was killed (not explicitly stated but the BM answering machine pretty much stated it) so I don't think he would be back.

IMHO if the detective clue is correct, I would think more along the lines of 20's - 30's mystery detective stories...

American Hard-Boiled Crime Fiction and the earlier, more elegant, Gentleman/detective "whodunit".

This prob means nothing but they all have ties to Disney. Disney just signed a three book deal with Eoin Colfer. Steve Jobs is on the Disney Board of Directors and Peter Falk was in the Disney film Corkey Romano and ABC aired the more recent episodes of Columbo.

Nyet, Boris was alive. If I recall, he arrived at Dr. Agana's office to see the aftermath of an apparent scuffle between her and another worker. Not to mention I believe it was he who founded Legendary Truth in the first place after everything went down.

Besides, the whole Bloody Mary saga (at least when dealing with Mr. Shuster) took place in the 50s, a good 30 years after our supposed time frame for XXI (first two decades of the 20th century).

So then, we have Living, Dying and Dead.

A Living man who wrote a book about a soul trapped between Heaven and Hell.

A Dying man who Imagines there is no Heaven while tempting Mankind with the Apple of Knowledge.

A Dead man who was visited by Heavenly Angels in a City half Alive and half Dead.

Speaking of our previous mutual friend, perhaps we should re-examine one of his quotations? The one about the Living envying the Dead?

Oh OK I did not get to play LT after the event opened. I only played in the start so all I had to go one was what took place before. I shuld have followed up with the story. Good to know :) but you're right we are 20 years earlier... so who knows...

My wife, bless her soul, apparently stayed up trying to find a commonality to the three. She came up with cancer... As Jobs and Falk had it... and she thought the character in Colfer's book had it but he was sprayed with something to prevent it... It was weak at best even they all had cancer... but I think we can say there isn't a commonality to them all. But we have 3 guys dead, dying, and healthy. The doc's points make since but I just don't see the "a ha" simplistic point of commonality to all three.

Text from my wife:

how about this:

Steve Jobs quotes Columbo's line "Just one more thing" when unveiling tech game-changers like the iPhone and the iPad. Eoin Colfer has a book called "And Another Thing". It is the title of the sixth installment of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy." Maybe, it has something to do with The Thing... or it is a message saying that there is one more thing that they haven't revealed yet.

I was joking around a crab-boat/crab-people theme... but with Cancer being a commonality...

(If that happens, I'll be shocked)

Text from my wife:

This one... this one probably makes the most logical sense if their is a deeper connection.

Taking a different perspective they are all storytellers. Eoin Colfer is obviously a writer. Peter Falk tells stories through his characters and is very fondly remembered as the Grandfather story teller in Princess Bride. Steve Jobs has recently been called by social media sites our greatest and most powerful storyteller. http://www.socialmediaexplorer.com/social-media-marketing/power-of-storytelling/
