Guest HHNPicMan
Getting a feel for how the games on the site work this year, I am speculating that we will most certainly see guest getting to take chances in order to increase their expirience. Example, the spinning the wheel that was talked about at the VIP sessions.
Oysterhead00
Found this on Amazon (of all places) about Lady Elizabeth Horthorne (it's a review of a book): An agent for the Crown, Marcus Ashford, Earl of Westfield has just been assigned to protect widow Lady Elizabeth Hawthorne, who is in the possession of a mysterious notebook left by her dead husband. Elizabeth is stunned to find that Marcus is her contact, for they share a complicated past. Four years ago she was engaged to the Earl, but Elizabeth jilted him and ran off and wedded another. Marcus cannot forget the beauty and the misery she had caused him and vows to make her his lover. Meanwhile, someone is attempting to gain the notebook and its secrets. Marcus and Elizabeth embark on an affair amidst the attempted kidnapping and murders. Beware, this is not 'lite' romance. First of all there is some use of foul language (F and C words mostly). Secondly the love scenes are many and very intense and graphic (seem to involve a power-struggle of sorts between the H/H). And lastly the emotional turmoil going on between these two keeps up until almost the end of the book. Both indulge in the carnal aspect of their relationship but vehemently guard their hearts. Their power struggles and lack of mutual trust leads to many confrontations and ultimately the realization of their true feelings for one another. The only thing that prevented me from giving this one five stars is that in some of the love scenes the hero was a little too demanding and dominant for my taste -not that it was rape/forced, but it still gave me the willies to have the herione that vulnerable. The mystery wasn't bad, but took a back seat to the melodrama and the love scenes. Basically a pretty good historical romance with LOTS (really no exaggeration!) of erotic love scenes. http://www.amazon.com/review/R1PJ128M8SJM7K/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#R1PJ128M8SJM7K Edited August 4, 2011 by Oysterhead00
Lizz
I would imagine the lack of the "e" at the end of the name is important, to differentiate Lady Elizabeth from some famous people with a similar name. I would venture to guess she's an original character, not something you'll find in a google search.
Zokoke
I looked at Elizabeth Hawthorne's tombstone and I tried to look at the dates. I couldn't read them fast enough so I couldn't read the death, but it looks like her DOB is 1881 as far as I could tell. Can anyone confirm? Edit: DOD 1938? Tony
Anyone notice there are eight different colored chips on the bottom of the house page. Maybe they coincide with the Chinese New Year zone.

dark_orphan
One thing to note, on my house of cards at least, all cards are spades, and the only cards used are Ace, 2, 6, 8, and Queen. Just a thought... House of Cards = Universal Studios Orlando Ace = Icon? Sidekick? 2 = Two Shows 6 = Six Scarezones 8 = Eight Houses Queen = Icon
HHN1234567
I think the hint picture could be a scarezone. Those orange faces look like they could be carved jack-o-lanterns I know they have that one bridgelike area back past Mel's where they had the jack-o-lanterns hung last year, (forgive me I don't know what that area is called zonewise) and I know there are stilt walkers there though so if they are using the pumpkins again that could be stiltwalkers with those masks standing in front of them? I'm probably way off but that's what I thought of when I saw it. either that or Tent 1 which is my house.

If you go in expecting the "color" coded zone to be Chinese New Year, I think you're going to be disappointed. I do think the colors might all tie together... but that specific scarezone isn't Chinese New Year. I think the hint picture could be a scarezone. This has been discussed before, I think on this thread - the pictures will be clues to houses. 8 cards, 8 houses. The picture is from a room of a house... which we suspect to be Tent 1. =)

mystiquephreeq
This may have nothing to do with this HHN, but I love etymology. Elizabeth Hawthorn: The name Hawthorne came about due to Nathaniel Hawthorne's desire to be separated from his relative, Reverend Hathorne. Hathorne was an intrical part of the Salem Witch trials. It would be interesting if Hawthorn was a variation that came about for the same reasons.
JDW
OK so I get home from Sanford and we have this? Nice. So we have several games (the code shows the names) : Blueray - which has Gravestones... snow... crypts... Lady Elizabeth Hawthorn... and blue light lanterns.\ Bloodngutz - Which has TV with old movies on it. Loose Cannon - Not working but I think it lines up with our number 5 clue. Wave - Not working Certain Rune - Not working. Makes sense with tent 1... as we have the only room code name "Rune Room" So Blue Ray lines up with clue #4 from our mutual friend. And Bloodngutz lines up with clue #3. I'm not really sure what the house of cards means...

sarah21683
Regarding the game: The key game has a cemetery and blue lights (lanterns) hanging on the doors (as pointed out by Pumpkin on the Our Mutual Friend thread. So this game ties in with Hint #4. So then this part of the game could be tied in with one house. The name on the tombstone, Elizabeth Hawthorn, would seem to be tied into this house rather than as an overall icon. Unless, of course, this is the icon house. With the tv game, the first part is the phone. On the notepad it says "re: job offer You have two calls waiting...Line 2 is the Taxidermy Company. Line 10 is WKNB, the telivision station." This game is obviously alluding to Hint #3, thus representing another house (Disaster). Where it comes together is under 'The House' tab. Under the house of cards there are 8 tokens. When you beat each game, half of one token becomes filled in. It seems like we will be getting more games as time goes on, one representing each house. The won't have a game for the Casino (because you're IN the casino) and probably won't have a game for The Thing because of licensing purposes. That doesn't make much sense if the colored tokens at the bottom of the screen represent the different houses, of which there are 8. That's like saying they didn't need an article for Silver Screams because we were already in the theater. And they've never excluded the icon/main house from the site's festivities. Also, they didn't have a problem doing games for Dead Silence, Friday the 13th, NOES, TCM, and Assimilation.

It would be interesting if Hawthorn was a variation that came about for the same reasons. It may interest you to know that in addition to the name of the judge who condemned three of my ancestors (one of whom escaped) in Salem Village, that hawthorn the plant has many interesting associations. The Romans believed that hawthorn was sacred to the Goddess Flora, and that it brought good luck. Christians have associated the thorns of the hawthorn with the crown of thorns worn by Christ at His crucifixion. An ancient hawthorn bush believed to be planted from the crown by St. Joseph of Arimathea grows at Glastonbury Abbey in England. In the film The Satanic Rites of Dracula, the Count is destroyed when he gets caught in the branches of a hawthorn bush. In Irish folklore, hawthorn is considered sacred to the 'good folk' and is sometimes even called the "faery bush". For all these reasons it has been held through the ages that it is most terribly unlucky to ever cut, uproot, or bring a hawthorn bush indoors. Draco Malfoy's wand was made of hawthorn. Grimp0nd
The more I see of the site update the more I'm thinking there isn't a casino house at all. Too many things on there seem to tie together making me think that the icon house is connected to Lady Elizabeth Hawthorn. I'll explain. The title Lady suggests money and it looks to me that when you complete a game we are slowly building a house of cards. Or a mansion fit for a Lady? When we choose or card to see which game we play it's presented on a silver tray. Now a silver tray is fitting for perhaps a butler in service to a Lady in a big residence. You could certainly hold private card games at such a place too as the rich would not take notice of such a little thing as gambling being illegal. Maybe the lord of the manor was a gambling cad and it's his hand we see severed on the table. Anyway I think there are too many connected things on the site to imply a minor house which leads me to believe it's the main one. My personal theory is the gambling husband killed his Lady wife and she came back as Lady Luck for poetic justice and vengeance.
Grimp0nd
Concerning the late night tv horror house I expect this to be set in the 60's due to clues on the puzzle. The old style telephone, the poster about color tvs (as I recall they came out in the 1960s and the lava lamp. I don't think this will have much if any connection to the theme this year. Cramer
Concerning the late night tv horror house I expect this to be set in the 60's due to clues on the puzzle. The old style telephone, the poster about color tvs (as I recall they came out in the 1960s and the lava lamp. I don't think this will have much if any connection to the theme this year. Lava lamps make me think '70s. Color TVs were invented in the 50s, became popular in the late 60s, and became standard by the 70s, but a lot of movies were still made in black and white around that time. Of course being born in '91, this is WAY before my time, so I'm speaking not from memory but from what I've studied. Also, I just want to make my plug about Dr. Paul Bearer again. The TV host reminds me so much of Dr. Paul! Now, it's probably because I had already made the connection, so I dunno...maybe he won't be involved. But I think that he would fit this fairly well. What makes me really make this connection is that this seems a lot like our "funny" house this year, especially with it being set in the 60s-70s...usually our houses set in the past are the "funny" houses. Those that don't know of Dr. PB should know that he was very famous in the Central Florida area from the early 70s to 1996 when he died after an open heart surgery. He was famous for his "Horrible" movies on Saturday afternoons and...puns. Here's an example: If this is our "funny" house this year, then I don't see how they can't involve Dr. Paul somehow, even if it's a fleeting allusion. Of course, this is all speculation based on my thoughts and opinions, but hey, that's what the speculation thread is for.

I agree - late 60s/early 70s for the time period of the house. I don't think our event will tie the houses together, except for perhaps on themes of chance or something along those lines. Take a look at these 1960 - 1969 TV Set Advertising and 1970 - 1979 TV Set Advertising, for comparison. The posters in the TV game say "New Color TV" "New! Console TVs!" and "Everything you always wanted in a color TV" The Console TVs was the new thing in the 70's . Grimp0nd
Yeah I'd go along with early 70s too thinking about it. I reckon this stands a very good chance of being a comedy house too. Only two problems there for me. I'm not keen on comedy houses and I hate the 70's lol. I'll try and keep an open mind though. The Ghost Ship, Lady Hawthorn and Thing houses have me excited though. Wonder how long we'll have to wait for the next games?
