This is going to be a scaractor-side rant.....just so you know!

[RANT]

I am way over guests coming through my hallway sticking their hands into/through my boo-hole or touching my curtain or pulling it back and looking at me or guests who think they should/will ever scare the scareactor. You pulled my curtain back and see me.....Good For You!!!! Do you want a medal or applause??? What did you expect to see...me picking my nose or standing on my head??? Most boo-holes are apparent, so why feel the need to do that?!? My point is.....just walk!!!! In what alternate universe is it accepted to push/kick a door that is closed? My girlfriend had her hand fractured by a guest who thought it would be okay to do just that to a closed door that she happened to be standing behind waiting for the idiots to pass.

If anyone has walked through my scene and seen me work, you will know that I am out and back very quickly and so you saying "Boo!" or "Ahhhh!" won't get a reaction out of me. So, Mr. "I scared him", you didn't and you would have known that if you would have looked back as you left the room and seen me scare again. Also, you putting your hand on any part of my curtain will only make me stop abruptly because I don't want to plow into you or be harmed...not because you scared me.

Finally, no one person should have to carry any scene occupied by multiple scareactors!

[/RANT]

I know the feeling man. Only difference is when I see someone starting to head into my boo-holes, I make a beeline straight for them. I normally scare them extremely well, and I hit them with my mask, they shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Holy cow! So sorry for your girlfriend! That's just ridiculous! I don't get how these people were raised to be such jerks. Who taught them it was ok to destroy things that aren't yours? And they KNOW people are working in these locations. Hope they caught whoever did it!

Thanks for your concern! Her wrist is still sore and she has been protecting it to make it better. She was unable to point out the @$$hole as she was behind the door at the time.....and she "hopes his dick falls off". I just don't see why people feel that is okay. :( :(

I have one rant about the guests, The other day I was in Legendary truth and i was behind this guy, and we were on the part where they ghost is in the see trough floor and as soon as the guy saw the ghost, he started to kick the floor really hard for a few minutes, but then kept walking, I was thinking, What was his point? To break the glass and fall on the actor? I seriously kept thinking, what the hell was he thinking, I know the floor is hard, I kept wondering if he wanted to break it, he kept kicking in so hard, it seriously made me so mad, i was like wtf?

And then today, I was sitting in the chair by esqueleto muerte drinking soda and I saw that a really tall black guy did something, I think he touched an actor or something, and the security guy went over to talk to him, and he got so angry, the guy started yelling at the security guy and wouldn't stop trying to fight, I seriously thought he was going to punch him!, I really don't get it, he did something wrong and the he has the nerve to pick up a fight, with him no less, I was like, that is the worst person to fight with, they will just kick him out, and then ruin the trip for his family,

I don't know, I get really tired at night and I like to sit near esqueleto muerte, my favorite scarezone and I always see the actors pointing out people that did something, makes me so mad, for some reason guests forget the actors are still people, wtf? I dont understand how seeing someone in a costume makes it ok to be a total jerk to them, and touch them, that I just don't get.

Wow, we missed the fight last night. We actually had a very good experience after kind of a downer Weds. Met nice people to chat with in many of the lines. Even the extremely drunk people in front of us at LT were an absolute riot going through the house (as opposed to obnoxious). We left pretty early tho' (8:30ish) before the overall alcohol level skyrocketed. My husband and I both hate seeing the scareactors in the zones getting abused. Just the other day hubby pointed out some little douche tweener poking and pulling on someone's mask and thinking it made him look so cool. I'd love to see anyone who does anything like that kicked out immediately, no discussion or excuses. Word would get around if things got tightened up and I suspect a lot of it (not all, but a lot) would stop.

This was the first year for me that I went twice. My first day was Thusrday 21st and second day on the 28th. My first day everything went extremly smooth. did half the houses in about an hour. quick lines. My second week was also fast but I have to complain about the scarezones not being ready (or the scareactors not being in their zones.) It was about 7:00 or 7:30 and the scarezones for Mardi Gras, The Coven & Saws & Steams were empty. I was deeply disappointed.

Also, I think the scarezone need to be setup in a better and more cohesive way. For example,If you go to the 20 years scarezone and then you want to walk down the coven, at the end you're back to were you started. so you have to walk through the 20 years scarezone again. I feel it'd be better to have all of the scarezones in your way. anyone else agree?

Lastly, not that i'm complaining but I can't help and wonder why there has been alot less crowds this year. Out of all the years I been to (2007-2010) this year has felt as the emptiest.

The douchebags were out in droves last night, let me tell you. I don't normally go on the wknds just for that reason but this year was an exception. The alcoholic douches are one thing, but I would really like to complain about the young punk douches. I had a group of them in front of me during my first trip through Hades- they were so freaking loud and obnoxious that at one point I looked over and one of the scare-actors was actually flipping them off. I don't know that there's anything that can be done about kids/teens like that (aside from blame their parents) but I would really like to smack them. I saw quite a few actors snapping at various people last night because they were showing off for their friends and being stupid.

And I touched on my second rant in the Legendary Truth forum but I'll mention it again here- why do people go through haunted houses if they think everything is stupid? I've never been through a house like that where every single person in the line was completely stone-faced. The actors don't always get me but I at least smile or show some kind of human emotion, these people looked like they were touring an open house or something. I just saw a ton of people last night who looked completely bored or annoyed when the scare-actors were trying to get them and the actors were working so hard. I just don't understand why people pay so much to come to a place like HHN to try and have a terrible time!

This. Oh well, they paid around $80 to not have a good time. Their loss!

I have a couple of things to rant about. First thing is the wait time for legendary. I love the house but it seems every time I go to check it out the wait time is always wrong. Like last night me and my friends went it said 5 mins get in line and we stop past the Queue Video. I know some people are also getting in the line when it says 5 mins but when we got to the front they where only using one rope line to get in usually they use 3. I saw the staff stop a couple of people for some reason. Anyways by the time we got into the sound stage 25 mins had gone by. It wasn't that long of wait I know but we just weren't expecting it to be that bad. My last rant is that I went with my Mother on a different night and going into the houses we would have to decided whether to get trampled by a bunch teenage girls or to get stepped on by a guy because his girlfriend decided to jump backwards. My mom loves going to the event but its not that fun when your feet are getting stepped on or people are pushing you when your trying to enjoy a house.

They didn't have the floor plans for the houses (of this year) out anywhere. They didn't have them in the Guest Services building (where the UTH Tours start), nor did they have them in the VIP Lounge. Seeing the floor plans is just as important to going through the actual houses to me. My dad being an architect, and myself being a haunt designer, the floor plans (and the elevations, bird's eyes, ect.) are a lovely treat for me to see every year. I asked my UTH tour guide, and he said that the house managers or the RIP tour guides, didn't get to see them either! I do understand A&D not wanting other commercial haunts taking their ways of maze layout, ideas, ect. They could have certainly had them in the Guest Services building (where the UTH Tours start off), and simply say please do not take any pictures. They said that about The Wolfman booklet and maze, and I sure didn't see any "illegal" photos on the internet. This makes me a lot more dissapointed and sad than it does angry. :(

Being drunk and giggling is one thing, stumbling drunks are not cute, nor funny, Especially when you become "That Person" and were so close to being escorted out of the park.

Not a rant, the reversal but it goes in ranting because people keep bitching about it. I was really pleased to see the Ops team in Catacombs wearing the cloaks/robes last night. It didn't really take me out of the experience.

It was awesome when, during long breaks in the line, they would use their flashlights as lightsabers.

Whoever complained about the Ops in robes/cloaks should be shot. That was an amazing idea, and I'd love to see more of it. It honestly made the house a LOT better. I've always thought that ops should be in the shadows, and guests should be told that they're "demons of mercy" or something of that sort to help them out if help is needed for some reason or another...hearing a creepy voice from a cloaked figure say "Please, put up your camera" is better than a guy with a nametag saying it. And when the drunkards, or idiots do decide to do what they do, then the hood goes back and they can step in. Problem solved.

EDIT: No, they shouldn't be shot. I'm being funny. Opinion still stands though. Why not cloak the ops?

People were complaining? I really, really have to wonder why? that didn't bother me, in fact it made the houses better, all these cloaked figures standing in corners, it was pretty cool

too bad people complained, and, I seriously ask, Why? because it was pretty cool

This 100%. They blended in with the house soo well with those cloaks. I think this is something they should continue doing.

I really agree with this. Was this the only house they did this in? It was the only one where I noticed it. I didn't even realize they were Ops until I realized they were just standing there not scaring.

This is a great idea and I hope they do it more.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had to just chime in here with my two cents because I am a former OPS team member and I feel the need to do this every year...to clarify a few things. Now, I know that the good majority of you out there deem the presence of the OPS team members unnecessary. Well, tell me exactly how the houses would run without them? Who do you think sets up/breaks down that queue every day of the event? Or who cleans up all of the nastiness at the end of the evening? (and coming from someone who cleaned up pretty much every bodily fluid that could come out of a person; it's no easy task). Do you think that the scare actors are the only people that take the physical/verbal abuse during the event? Nope. The operations team members that blend in with the surroundings of the house because they wear all black, have to..(and yes, they need a lot of different "safety" people through out the house because there are so many potential things that could go wrong so Universal is covering their own ass). Wouldn't that be a little silly to have the ones that are working the queue in the bright orange shirts, inside the houses? Universal Wardrobe makes those decisions; not the operations team. Team members only do what is instructed to them by their supervisors and the reason they are told to keep the line moving through the house is because the "higher ups" want to see those high numbers of people being pushed through, hour by hour. Every hour on the hour the team leaders have to call in and report that number and if it's not up to the goal that's been set for that hour, they are instructed to tell their team members to get it going. While, I understand what some of you are saying because let's face it, no team member is 100% perfect, and there are bad, or lazy ones sometimes, there HAS to be operations team members, otherwise the houses wouldn't run. It's as simple as that. Everything that doesn't involve scaring, is taken care of by operations so think about that. I know that it may be frustrating the way things are done sometimes, and you may not understand it but REALLY think about all the work that those people have to do before you bitch.

...and as for the issue with the Express Line for the "Hallow'd Past"; the way that the regular queue is set up, and given the tight space as it is, there would be no other place for the Express line to go...that's it.

I have to say, I have sympathy for OPS members like you were. When I was there, one was quite exasperated trying to explain to a guest why the guest couldn't light up in a queue line.

They're so constantly made out to be bad guys, but I think in truth they're tired, possibly hungry :P, and just annoyed. All night it's their job to say "don't do this, don't do that". Meanwhile, half the guests are drunk and an even larger group of them just lack respect. I'm sure I'd be annoyed, too, with being yelled at by a guest for doing my job.

I think that's my only issue, and it's not with Uni.

-Nadine
