Photo with Jack

  1. 1. Does the opportunity to have your photo taken with Jack diminish his "scare-factor"?

    • Yes, it makes him less scary.

    • No, he still creeps me out.

I'm not sure how I feel about the Photo with Jack booth. Does having someone who is arguably the scariest icon available for photos make him less scary? To me, it reduces him to another Universal character like Scooby-Doo or Homer Simpson. What do you think?

Jack became a sell out the second time he was used as an icon because Universal was worried about offending someone. Everything beyond that as just cheapened him more and more and more. I think Gargoyle is on the right track...clowns never realy scared me too much before but at this point he's about as scarey as Scooby Doo.

I honestly think it depends on who you are. Clowns have always made me uneasy (THANK YOU "Are you Afraid of the Dark") so to me Jack is the best of the best when it comes to the icons for me personally, as in that he is the one that scares me the most.

His sarcasm and demeanor only add to his attraction for me. He's like a venus fly trap... you know you shouldn't go near him but yet you do. He's so charismatic.

So all in all I guess it's a catch 22. I would belying if I said I wouldn't be dissapointed to leave without a photo with Jack. I would love to take a photo with him. To conquer a fear and get so close to an icon.

However, for people who live in FL and go often I can see how this would cheapen the experience.

It would just all depend on who you are and where you're coming from.

I think he sold out way before this. He stopped scaring me in like....oh, I dunno '04 or '05 when he had the maze.

Though the photo guy is great, and provides nice moments.... I brought a friend with me a few nights ago, and we were sitting on a park bench near the photo booth. Jack was done, and was getting escorted backstage....well, he had to walk by us. And my friend is very very afraid of clowns. So she hides her face, and starts saying "Andrew, I hope he doesn't walk this way, oh God Andrew, he's coming this way, oh my god!" and carrying on...as he was approaching, I grinned, and said "Hey, Jack! How's it going?" he looked at me, looked at her, and smiled....got right in her face, and said in the classic gravelly clown voice, "What's the matter? Are you afraid of clowns?" my friend kinda squeals and keeps her face covered....."Why be afraid of us, HUH?! We're so frickin' happy!" then she peeks an eye out, and he glares her down....and walks away. "Thanks Jack! Have a good night!" I shouted after him. I got punched for that one....hahaha.

I never noticed a photo booth, though I suppose that would explain why I couldn't find him in Fear Revealed. In any case, I think it's a neat thing. Jack is a character with a lot of personality, and getting your picture taken with him provides you with the opportunity to interact with him more than you would be able to in a haunted house.

Besides, all the other icons are available for photo-ops, so what's the difference?

He is in Fear Revealed as well, at least he was on opening night....I think I saw him when I went this past Thursday, but I'm unsure.

The photobooth thing he's at now is across the bridge from The Simpson's Ride, pretty much next to The Orfanage. I never knew about it until this past Thursday, and Jack got my friend in the above allegory XD.

So, is this "photo booth" similar to this:

Yeah, in fact it looks exactly like it!

And about the whole 'Jack selling out' thing, Jack is Horror Nights. There's nothing he could do that would be consider "selling out" in my eyes. People love him and they want to see him.

Yes he is a sell out. But that is nothing new. He has always been a sell out.

But I'm not understanding the hate for the ringmaster Jack. he has been very funny/creepy everytime I've gone through there... and I don't like Jack in the slightest.

I really forgot how much I love Jack he is the perfect icon with the right amount of sarcasm and fear. I too don't understand the hate for ringmaster Jack the times I've been through Fear Revealed he has been great so I don't know what the problem is. And regarding the photos with Jack they had the same thing in 07 so it's nothing new.

This question of whether Jack is a "sell-out" really makes no sense. He was created for marketing purposes... to help SELL the event. You make him sound like a real person with his own possible motives, rather than the mere marketing tool that he has always been.

No offense to the actors in Fear Revealed, but seeing them and seeing the "real" Jack at the photo booth are two completely different experiences. There's just no comparison.

He is the media Jack. The one they use for media and such. Which is why he was referred to as the "Real Jack"

Oh, that would explain that. Anywho I wouldn't call him a sell-out, the photo opp provides some more of a one on one interaction opportunity which I found kinda cool.

I really disagree with the sell out comment, all of the icons are sell out in that case, You could take pictures with the usher even outside at the gates, and same with caretaker

and specially this year, this year might well as be icon sell out year,

I like Jack, I wont deny it, I really like him, He is one of my favorite icons, he is not boring like the director, he is entertaining, I wouldn't compare him to scooby doo, but more to Freddy Kruger, same type of joking personality, you could say Freddy Is a Clown,

and The icons don't Even have a house this year, Hallow'd past is not an icons house, they just happen to be there, so i dont think is a sell out

A-freakin-Men, i'm beyond sick of people b1tching about Jack, he IS Halloween Horror Nights. Yeah, he doesn't need to be present every year, but there should always have a place for him

Yeah, and he was walking around and took pictures all the way back in 2000, heck i've got one of them in front of me right now lol. The Ringmaster Jack was sick the night i got to visit, he was being a total ass and that just made it so funny

I don't wanna blow your mind here, but he IS a Universal character....uh....

and they had a photo-op Jack in 17 as well... so, it's not like this is new...

Jack is Jack. I enjoy Jack. I enjoy the Director more, but I digress...

personally, I don't want to see ANY of them go..

Once again, A-FREAKIN-MEN, I don't want them to go, especially not if this is the send off because Fear has been a huge let down and the icons deserve better
