  1. I think AHS could be the best bet. And since every season is a new story we'll guaranteed to get something new every year with this property.
  2. Some IPs bring in crowds but not all of them. I believe that TWD alone was responsible for the mass crowds. Could anyone actually believe that Dracula Untold or Silent Hill alone would've brought in those crowds without TWD? I've been to 07 and 09 which were IP heavy and the crowds then were nowhere near as big as it is now. Granted really big IPs bring in a lot of money like TWD leading to more houses and content. What Universal needs to do is to find out which IPs bring in crowds and which ones aren't and bring in a balance of Originals and the IPs that are proven hits. One day Universal will no longer have TWD at it's disposal and that will be the true test of IPs at HHN. I'm not against IPs heck there's some IP I wouldn't mind seeing one year.
  3. I wouldn't mind adding my two cents in. I admit I'm disappointing in the move of "more IPs over originality". I also admit that some IPs sell big (some but not all IMO which I'll get to in a bit) Regardless I'm still going to the event and I'm stoked about Blizzard including the Anniversary house and even RUN 3.0 (or 1.2 without the pulse lines.) Heck I wouldn't be surprised if at least one house if not more pulls a "HAVOC" and blows peoples minds. As for IPs, I still believe that the reason the crowds are so big for the last 4 years was mostly on TWD and it makes me wonder what will happen with the crowds when Universal is unable to use the TWD license. Sure Uni will likely find another property but TWD is "once in a blue moon"; not just for horror but for most entertainment genres in general. It could be challenging to find a IP that can even come close to TWD when it comes to bringing in record crowds. People travel hundreds of miles to see TWD but would they do the same for Dracula Untold or The Thing premake? I'm hoping that one day Universal does a proper balance of IPs and originals (if it continues to have 9 houses, 4 IPs and 5 originals. If it goes back to eight, half and half.) and be more wise about bringing in IPs that are proven with the fans to keep that crowds going. (ex. ED, AHS, FNAF) As for this years I can't wait for Blizzard and RUN. (I have'nt been to the original RUN house so if it at least keeps the same concept if not the pulse line of the actual maze like format I would finally settle a 14 year regret.
  4. AHS could potentially work well as a replacement and could satisfy both the GP and HHN fans since the series has a different story every season. (meaning no generic zombie house with TWD stamped over it every year.) The only issue is if Universal and Fox could ever come to a agreement. And if they could it might open up Scream Queens to be used as well since it's both from the same company. The real question is if SQ is going to be any good quality and/or ratings wise.
  5. I've been wondering what Universal will do when they're no longer able to use TWD. They'll be hard pressed to find another IP to measure up to the property. (What other show in any genre let alone Horror can beat Sunday Night Football head to head in the ratings?)
  6. Same thing could be expected with bringing in the Hammer Dracula films as a tribute to Christopher Lee.
  7. I'm a bit disappointed that they're bringing TWD back, and I'm a bit fan of the show. But the house and the others before it are NOT the show. To me these are generic zombie houses with TWD stamped on it. Comparing the houses to the actual show is like comparing a cubic zirconia to a diamond. I've also been thinking what would happen to the event should Universal be unable to use the franchise since it's bound to happen sooner or later. I understand how people feel about this house but in my opinion it isn't exactly TWD that's killing the event's originality. It's the overuse of IPs in general. I'm not against the use of IPs since some IP houses were quite successful (ex. AWIL, CitW, FDTD, ect.) but there were also some IPs that were a waste of space that could've went to a original house. (ex. Silent Hill, RE, The Thing premake) I believe what Universal needs to do is put a cap on the number of IPs the Orlando event could use per year (like only 3 or 4 a year.) thus they have to pick the best IPs that could attract fans (like TWD) or IPs that would make classic houses. (AWIL, Halloween, NOES: Dreamwalkers) As for TWD, I'm planning on not going on it unless reviews convince me otherwise.
  8. Here is part 2: Giggles and Gore: This was a very unique house with a lot of scary visuals and intensity. My favorite part was the man with his eyes pried open ala "A Clockwork Orange" being forced to watch Woody Woodpecker. My only complant was the queue video. Unlike past queue videos at this location with helped built the story like Leave It To Cleaver and H.R. Bloodengutz all the video was was the logo geting warped along with the occasional images of warped clowns and footage of Red Skelton as well as real life surgical procedures. I think to make this video work is to add some steampunk/circus music and songs like Maroon 5's redition of Pure Imagination. Not sure if Universal has rights to that song though but use songs just like that. It would go well with the clown footage. Besides that the house itself is excellent. AvP: Alien vs Predator The sets were good. Thought the xenomorph animatronics were good, and I liked the appearence of space marines at the end. My advice is to make the animatronics a little faster especially the face huggers. The volume needs to be turned up for the android head since I couldn't hear him. And this is a personal preference but I wouldn't mind if one of the space marines acted like Hudson with a little "Game Over man! Game Over!" I like that Vasquez made a appearance though. With a few tweaks as well as ironing out the bugs that happened last night this house has potential. Roanoke-Cannibal Colony: A lot of people here are likely to tear me a new one for what I'm about to say but this was my favorite house that night. I know some reviews said the scares were off but when I went on I thought the cast I saw was going all out. Plus I thought the atmosphere, disturbing images, and the tribal music really brought a truly scary feel. Maybe the cast got word that they weren't performing good enough and decided to try to pull of a Havoc and I think it worked. I think this house deserves another chance. Halloween: The sets were great as well as the facade with the projection with Judith Myers getting knifed by Mini-Mike. The scares were good and I loved the homage to Halloween III with the Silver Shamrock wearing Trick-or-Treaters jumping at us. (I sometimes think that if HHN does a cult movie theme. Halloween III would be perfect for a house.) Definately going to this house again. That's it for today. I'm hoping that when the event opens I'll check out the scarezone when they're at 100% as well as the shows.
  9. After 8 houses and legs that feel like lead after walking and standing in line all night (which was worth it.) I'm ready to give you my first impressions of the attractions. This is not a review since at EPs not all effects and houses will be at 100 but I will give constructive criticism on if the houses are perfect the way they are and what can be done to improve when the event begins. Now here we go: Dollhouse of the Damned First house for me and it was pretty good. A very creative concept, very disturbing, and great scares. The sets were great and I thought the bisected care bear on the wall was a great touch. There isn't anything that needs to improve with the house at all. I'll definatly go on it again. Dracula Untold: The costumes were great and the scares were decent. Sets were beautiful. It may not be my personal favorite but it's an o.k. house. From Dusk till Dawn: This house really captured the feel of the franchise. It was fun and had some naughty humor yet at the same time was still scary with good effects and great make-up. The Aztec sets were well done and the finale made me feel like I was in the climax of the first movie itself. Well done. Walking Dead: End of the line (I hope) While I'm a big fan of the T.V. series, I have to agree with the majority of the forum here when I say that this house series needs to be put to pasture. It was only The Walking Dead by name only as this was an just an average zombie house. I could tell which walkers were real and which were mannequins quite easy. It walker hoard effect was nowhere near 2008's Dead Exposure. The only plus was the very end with the caged walkers and the strobe lights. That's about it. My advice is maybe replace the fake walkers with real scareactors but I think even with that this house is a lost cause. Stay tuned for part 2
  10. just after hhn 20 i posted on this site an idea for a house based on japanese mythology with creatures like kappas (reptilian monsters with duckbills that attack children) hukurokubi (long necked women who drink blood) and kitsunes i wonder if that is what they plan on doing this year as well
  11. Tha's true but there is also a chance that there may not be another craze as super massive as TWD fitting for HHN for a long time.
  12. I never said that TWD was the only thing that could draw. Of course there are others that could draw just not as nearly as big as TWD.
  13. Even though I don't agree with way the event is going, I'll reserve judgement till opening. I agree that The Walking Dead will lose it's luster one day. The real question is what will Universal do when that happens. No other IP will have the drawing power that TWD has and crowds will go back to pre-2012 capacity.
