  1. I've had my fair share of that happen as well. What they usually fail to realize is that scareactors look for the people hiding behind us tall people, as they can't see the scares coming.

Exactly. Happens to me a lot at HHN. I don't really mind it so much. Makes me feel like i'm some kind of hero trying to rescue them. :D Last year while going through Gothic I literally had 2 girls hanging on to my shirt. At one point one of them got so scared she knocked my sunglasses right off my head. They were never seen again. The sunglasses I mean. ;)

  2. I guess that makes sense.

I personally just never felt the difference between the regular conga line and the pulsing groups. I had people in front of me and behind so I didn't really notice the difference.

The difference between the pulsing and the regular line is with the pulsing it gives you better odds of being scared because you're in a smaller group. To me it makes no difference. As long as I get to go through the house. :D

  3. The event is more intense, more polished, and more cohesive by far than it used to be. We are just immune to it. You can only go so far with a scare. Technology, scareactors, costumes, music, and sets are just tools. Also, familiarity makes things even less scary.

This is so true. Every time now that I go through a house at HHN I kinda know what to expect and where the scareactors will be hiding within the house. Familiarity is a good word if you've been going to HHN for a while. Maybe Universal will mix things up inside the houses at some point. Make it Unfamiliar.

  4. Yeah i'm kinda on the same page here with the no more the walking dead pattern that's been going on. TWD was the main focal point of HHN last year and it would be sorta weird seeing it again this year or next without Universal focusing mainly on it again since it's such a big thing. TWD is what pretty much brought in the crowds last year so for Universal to have to use TWD again they would basically have to reinvent it if you will in order for it to work. I'm sure it could be done. Now I don't see The Walking Dead tv show going anywhere anytime soon so perhaps maybe just wait a while and see what else can be made of it for future use at HHN.

  5. I haven't posted much up to this point...but here's my wishful thinking (in a sense) and the direction I think the event might be going this year.

Do you all think it's possible that we may see another Scary Tales house this year? With all of the recreations of fairy tales lately (Hansel & Gretel, all the various Snow White movies, Oz The Great and Powerful, Once Upon A Time, etc. ) I feel like it would be once again relevant and would provide some mass appeal.

I also feel like we will see the return of a franchise house one way or another. Nightengales or Body Collectors could seem likely again especially considering the production of a lot of period based movies lately. I mean, lets face it, it was mentioned very clearly that Nightengales was meant to become a franchise. It was a pretty neat house and I think a lot of people would love to see it return. Or how about something that ties in with zombies/ something apocalypse based in which the Nightengales feed on these corpses. It's certainly worth a thought.

Lastly I feel like it's very likely we could see the return of American Werewolf in London and/or the urban legend house. The first seeming more likely. Last year saw the fruition of something that was merely an old projected concept actually brought to life (Gothic). Perhaps we could see the things that got scrapped last minute due to unforeseen circumstance actually make an appearance this year.

In my opinion, this all seems like it could really happen and I have a feeling we're going to see at least 1 of the 3 here happen. Then again, this is merely just wishful thinking :)

If anything I would say Nightingales. It's unlikely that we will see anything again prior to HHN XX. Now I did say unlikely not impossible. Another Scary Tales type house would indeed be awesome to see again. They could use the recreated fairy tales that are coming out for a house or maybe even in Bill and Ted. Who knows. If they even decide to use it at all. I loved Scary Tales III at HHN 2008. Is that the last we will see of it. I wonder...

  6. I'm not sure they will use the 13 aspect

I'm on the same page here. They used 13 back in 2003 and even though 2013 has a 13 in it, My opinion is that it would be confusing to some if they highlighted so to speak the 13 for this year because of it already being used in 2003. Again it's pure speculation of course but I keep going back to the A New Age of Darkness Begins. If they incorporated the number 13 in the event at all this year it would seem like to me anyways that they are copying 2003 in some way shape or form therefore not emphasizing on the New Age of Darkness concept.

  7. Again, this is not the hordes fault. To my knowledge, hordes were the compromise to the SS Parade's route during the day that affected the amount of props able to be in the streets during the night (and I'm sure everyone knows this). If we can do moveable set pieces again as Brandon pointed out, then I would still like them to incorporate some aspects of the hordes. It would be like scarezones but with wondering characters.

Hordes don't necessarily equal no set props, it was the SS Parade that caused this. Can we avert the lack of props next year by using moveable ones, hopefully. :)

Also, they don't even have to be called Street Experiences, they can call them scarezones again and deem them traditional scarezones, I don't care. I just want the roaming aspect, the freedom of the actors, and the no safezones idea (even though that's a gimmick, but it's part of the roaming aspect).

I completely understand. I do agree with what you are saying. Roaming hordes, Moveable set pieces. I totally can see this happening this year. It would be like the street experiences except only on steroids. Works for me... :D

  8. my biggest wishful thinking will always be that they pay as much attention to the scarezones as they did for 2010 (or 2008) My biggest dream every year for HHN is that the streets are as amazing as they were for 2010. (I kinda hope the hordes don't become the norm...)

This is very true to me as i'm sure it is to others as well. Seeing elaborate scarezones and set pieces like we did in 2008 and 2010 or just scarezones in general from other years is what sets the the atmosFEAR for HHN. Not seeing that last year actually kind of made it feel a little bland. For instance when you were inside a house last year you were at Halloween Horror Nights but when you exited the house you were still there just not as much. If that makes any sense. I mean the streets were cool and all last year but they just didn't stand out as much for me even with the little prop pieces they used here and there. Last year when it rained and the scareactors couldn't be out, Add that with the lack of set pieces to look at and it really made it feel kinda blah. At least if you have some awesome set pieces with a set scarezone like 2008 and 2010 when it rained and there were no scareactors around you could still see the scarezones and that at least gave you something to look at rather then what happened when it poured rain last year. Now this is all just my opinion. Don't get me wrong I love HHN to death and I would still go even if there were only one house and one scarezone. But the point i'm trying to get across is PLEASE JUST DO NORMAL SCAREZONES AGAIN... :D

  9. Ok here is a quick treatment. Warning spoilers!

    Mama house:

    Entrance:

You enter a snow covered woods. A car is crashed on the side of a hill. Foot steps in the snow along with blood drops lead to the house facade. On the radio in the car is a news report about a man killing his wife and kidnapping his kids.

    Scene 1:

House entrance. Abandoned 60's/70's style living room. The sound of rats and a crackling fire. Debris on the floor. A mannequin of a small child on the couch and another standing, facing away towards a window covered in frost.

A man points a gun at the back of the standing mannequin at the window crying. A scareactor jumps out and either attacks the man or can go directly for the guest. Guests proceed into the kitchen.

    Scene 2:

Kitchen. Again in disrepair. Cherry pits lie in a huge pile on the floor. 2 muddy wild children in this room. Multiple attacks either from up high over the fridge, the corners as a detraction, or even from an open oven.

    Scene 3:

Psychiatric ward. Children again this time in night gowns. Children's pictures on the walls. Scareactors come from under the beds, corners, etc.

    Scene 4:

Top of stairs. Mirror gag with first floor projected. On the floor at the base of the stairs is an unconscious man. Moldy, black, oozing hole on the wall. Moths on the walls. Scareactor mama attacks from either the hole or an indirect on landing.

    Scene 5:

Adjoining hallway. Child scareactor runs on all fours down the hallway back-lit.

    Scene 6:

Children's room. Children jumping up and down on the beds. The room in disarray, Children's drawings all over the wallpaper. The closet is ajar. The hanging light in the room is swaying and flickering. Mama attacks from closet or indirect boo hole.

    Scene 7:

Hospital room. Man lying in hospital bed. The bed is vibrating violently and the lights are flickering quickly. Moths all around the lights. Through the wall is scene of an overpass. In the shadow of the overpass Is a man twitching sporadically. Man under overpass can come out and scare or man lying on bed can jump scare.

    Scene 8:

Bedroom. Child scareactor stands to the side staring at a woman lying on the bed (does not need to be real). Mama scareactor can come at the woman from behind bed and from under the bed at guests. Little girl can scream at guests.

    Scene 9:

Abandoned house in the woods - living room. Man taking flash pictures (slow strobe) Mama scareactor in room. Optional decimated women mannequin standing as a distraction.

    Scene 10:

Cliff scene mama hovering above drop beckoning. Apparition disappears, lights dim and mama appears next to guests.

I agree. Sounds pretty cool. Maybe even a HOTY award... :D
