though I should say I'm talking about opening weekend I really did not keep up TGD I've been over Pixar after Incredibles, but regardless to say Krampus bombed? making

$56.1 million with a budget of $15 Million? It's not Star Wars money but that's pretty well for a non franchise horror movie coming out during holiday season with little to no hype outside of the horror community that's pretty good. My point in general was just it's not like most horror movies being put out lately (that are not Blumhouse)

I never said Krampus bombed and that wasn't TGD's opening weekend.

It beat out Pixar though arguably supposably the weakest Pixar film but still that good for a horror movie especially during the Holidays and was well reviewed. It's Universal's own property plus Michael Dougherty and Murdy have been pushing to work with each other since Trick R Treat so even if the movie bombed they have nothing to lose especially with TWD and FVJ to fall back on.

Except it didn't? Even though TGD bombed it still earned more than Krampus.

  3. The only Wednesday's left to add are in September, and I doubt they do that (though I'd LOVE it because they'd be beyond empty lol). I think 32 nights is perfectly acceptable. With the 9th house this year not being an exact repeat (I mean, this is assuming we even get a 9th house and it is in fact NOT a repeat), crowds will be spread out even better than this year, and yes while the streets will be flooded, wait times and crowding should feel better, imo. What they should do is add a 3rd worthwhile show in Animal Actors next year rather than add a 10th house (which I was never expecting anyway for budgeting/spacing reasons). Get people off the streets and out of lines, and that will help even more. Still can't think of a reason not to hire HHN-only actors for Horror Makeup Show and open that too, but idk.

That's if Animal Actors isn't shuttered by then.

  4. (somewhat not my wish list, just thinking "What Would Universal Do?")

    Icon: The Usher

    Sub-icons: Michael Myers, Regan, Ghostface

    Houses:

    1. Scream
    2. Exorsist
    3. Leatherface
    4. Halloween (encore house like AWIL)
    5. Walking Dead
    6. Silver Screams 2
    7. Nightingales 2
    8. All Night Die-In Take 3: Show Me The Fear
    9. 3D House

    Scare Zones:

    1. H.R. BloodNGutz
    2. Walking Dead
    3. Classic Monsters
    4. Modern Horror Icons
    5. The Lobby
    6. Backlot

    Shows:

    1. Bill & Ted's Excellent Halloween Adventure
    2. Death Drums
    3. Rocky Horror

I highly doubt Universal attempts Scream for a while unfortunately.

A&D learned their lesson by repeating AWIL so soon, no way Halloween comes back next year. They don't own the IP either.

Isn't having sequels to ANDI and Silver Screams iin the same year a bit redundant? Just make a megahouse at that point.

  5. Another idea i have is a Rob Zombie themed horror nights these can be the houses

    Halloween

    House of 1000 corpses

    the Devils rejects

    a rob zombie themed house

    and some HHN original houses

some people might not like that but I would like to see a Halloween maze inspired by the rob zombie films. The first half could be the first movie and the second half is H2. And yes I know they've done rob zombie themed mazes but they've all been in Hollywood

another horror icon they can bring in is Hannibal Lecter that would be pretty dope

No, though I will agree with your last sentence.

  6. Pasting what I said on OU:

    I think we'll have a 4 IP/5 Original split.
The Conjuring and The Purge feel highly likely.
If what I'm reading about the LT scarezone is correct, it looks like Mary Agana will be playing a big role. Providing she is the icon, could we be leaning towards a more paranormal theme for the event?
The MIB queue seems pretty much locked for the new house location.
I doubt we get a megahouse and a scarezone in SF next year. There's really nothing that could warrant a megahouse and the SF zone was already congested this year, construction will make it worse.
I think we get one sequel, but what could it be? Nightingales? Catacombs?

  7. Only been going since 2014 so my ranking of both years combined:

    1. Body Collectors: Recollections

    2. Freddy vs Jason

    3. Jack Presents: 25 Years of Monsters and Mayhem

    4. The Walking Dead: End of the Line

    5. Halloween

    6. Asylum in Wonderland 3D

    7. Dollhouse of the Damned

    8. Run: Blood, Sweat, and Fears

    9. Alien vs Predator

    10. From Dusk Till Dawn

    11. Insidious

    12. An American Werewolf in London

    13. Dracula Untold: Reign of Blood

    14. Roanoke: Cannibal Colony (This and Dracula are pretty interchangeable)

    15. The Walking Dead: The Living and the Dead

    16. Giggles and Gore

    17. The Purge

    Zones:

    1. Psychoscareapy: Unleashed

    2. The Purge Anarchy

    3. Evil's Roots

    4. Icons

    5. Bayou of Blood

    6. Scary Tales: Screampunk

    7. Maskquerade Unstitched

    8. All Nite Die-in

    9. Face Off: In the Flesh

  8. so Run is great if you happen to catch every single actor.. which happens, never? lol

I have done the house a couple of times and I never got a Fun feeling about it. actors are either hiding in their boo holes and scaring, or standing around (no boo hole) and scaring. It is interesting to see how much fun you had. I wish I had that much fun in it

When I went in Run I was able to get every actor except the gas room and the chainsaws.

  9. Thank you for your kind words and support! I don't get too much around here thanks to the influx of newcomers to the event. I would definitely agree the budget was too thin. They had:

    1) An extra house

    2) More scare actors

    3) A genuine stage show

    4) Longer hours (this ties to #2), and I believe more dates.

None of the houses, as you said, killed it. I had a favorite this year but it still didn't come out to what I thought it would be like. I'll get back to writing my reviews shortly!

I'd honestly also argue that Mike A. & Co are simply in a creative rut.

Since there probably won't be a mega house next year that should help with the budget.

  10. Heading up Saturday for my annual pilgrimage to HHN. A few questions though(please don't make me search. Lol)

    1) is there still a holding pen by finnegans?

    2) what app are you all using to see wait times? I downloaded the USO app, but only see ride times.

    3) my girlfriend doesn't believe me about the rat lady. Where/when are the best chances of seeing her?

    4) are the Harry Potter rides open during the event( taking a potter fan who hasn't seen the area)

i lurk all year- thank you all for keeping me excited, and have a great day!

    -c

    1. Yes

    2. The official app, just click on HHN 25 and go to scares.

    3. Don't know

    4. Gringotts is the only ride open, several other shops and restaurants in Diagon are open.

  11. An update on wait times. From what I've seen so far (I check the app every day/have been there quite a few nights), the highest wait times for each house so far have been:

    FvJ: 150

    Insidious/Purge/TWD: 140

    Asylum: 100

    M&M/Body Collectors: 90

    RUN: 80

    AWiL: 65

As I suspected, lines aren't as bad as last year, partly due to having a 9th house, and also due to a strong house lineup. Last year every single house save FDTD hit 120-180, and this year only 4 have gotten above 120, and none to 3 hours. When people hear most/all houses are great, they won't go to only the major IPs.

Also, AWiL's performance this year SHOULD make them think twice on bringing back exact repeats, especially really recent ones. The house is 20 min or less by 12 on the busiest of nights, and on most nights is 10 min or less by midnight.

Yeah, I'm going to be surprised if they do another repeat house next year.

  12. I cannot see Comcast agreeing to giving Scream another try after the amount of money they lost this year because of the right's holders. Merch, ads, maps, the actual house, costumes, etc.A LOT of money was spent to do Scream, as is spent on every IP, then at the last second they backed out. I don't see them even considering giving that IP or any other property owned by the same people another chance. Why risk getting fucked over again?

This is why they're not going to try getting AHS again and we should stop bringing it up as a possibility for 2016. They've tried the past three years to get it, and after Scream I don't think they want to deal with pushy IP holders.

  13. My early predictions for next year:

The Conjuring: This one seems like a shoe in. Universal has a good relationship with WB and they've worked with James Wan before.

The Purge: New movie is out next year and A&D probably wants to do it right this time.

Crimson Peak: The house in Hollywood is well received, and if it's a box office dud I can imagine they'd want to use this before it becomes irrelevant.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space: A property that A&D has wanted to tackle for a long time. Question is: will people be clowned out?

House with the year's icon (Eddie?)

One of the two originals that was scrapped in 2012 and 2014.

    A sequel

    Two new originals

  14. Looks like one of the Festival of the Dead parade coins.

Also, I've got to start my 2016 Wishful Thinking.

    Z-Nation

    Cooties

    Final Girls

I don't want any zombies next year period. BriMan said the other day on OU he has reason to believe TWD isn't coming back next year, let zombies breathe for at least a year.
