Halloween Horror Nights 28 Speculation
mystiquephreeq replied to Mark M.'s topic in Halloween Horror Nights 28
I've made my views on the Warrens known. I agree. The Conjuring is awash in legal turmoil. I don't think we will see it. I wonder if I should recalculate my years as a King fan. My desire to get my hand on the book stemmed from watching the miniseries. That came out in 1990. I watched it "live" so to speak. I was 10 when my love developed, but it took two years to final get my hands on the novel. And...I'm getting hopeful and my brain is speculating about IT now. Grrrr! I wonder if we would see some novel Easter Eggs. Things that didn't quite make the cut in the movie due to the change in the time period. There are things I didn't like about the movie, but those all stem from changes in characterizations of the Losers. Richie is always a steadfast supporter of Bill. He follows Bill's lead even while questioning Bill's ideas. The important parts for a haunt are dead on, though. I would have preferred Patrick meeting his end in the dump while Beverly over heard, but the way the scene was handled would work well for a haunt. Other nitpicks here and there, but all of Pennywise's scenes would translate well into a haunt setting. -

From a very simplistic view, the storylines are thematically similar if we use 80's time frame and young kids fighting a monster as the theme. The stories are more than that though. While the film doesn't dwell on many of the finer thematic points of the novel, there are key differences to both stories. IT has a group of kids who see/believe something no one else does, or, if others see/believe, the monster is ignored. One of the prevailing themes of IT is the unfettered belief of children. IT is not defeated by ingenuity or strength or weapons or mystical powers, IT is defeated by the pure, innocent, and simple belief that children place in magic and people. Stranger Things has three disparate groups ("kids", "teens", and "adults") who see/believe something. The story is through the eyes of three disparate groups who each bring their own strengths. Each group is determined to "go it alone" because "no one will believe them" or "they need to protect others". It is the combined efforts that result in "victory". The themes, though, mean little when it comes to similarities in haunts. In haunts, the protagonist is mere stage dressing. An additional piece of decor that adds flavor. It is the antagonist that is important. It is the environments that are important. No one goes into a haunt with the desire to see the hero. No one wants an IT house so they can see a scene of the Losers just hanging out in the Barrens. No one wants a Stranger Things house so they can see a scene of the kids playing D&D in Mike's basement. People want to see the upside down and the demogorgon. People want to see 29 Neibolt Street and Pennywise. The haunts wouldn't be about the kids. The haunts would be about the monsters, and the monsters are extraordinarily different. EDIT: Speaking of the General Populace... Most of the General Populace can't distinguish Jack from Pennywise and asked "who is this? I've been going for five years and don't recognize her!" when Chance was announced as Icon. I, highly, doubt they'll see any thematic similarities between Stranger Things and IT. They are the ones to please, not us. Most would be surprised to realize how easy it is to find similarities in all horror villains and the lack of true "uniqueness" within the genre. -

Doing a full on 80's nostalgia event would be amazing, but is unnecessary for IT or Stranger Things to be relevant. IT 2017 is the top grossing domestic horror film of all time. It exceeded all predictions regarding IT's reception. IT is no longer the cult movie/book fanatic property that grabs the attention of a niché base. IT is a powerhouse now. Stranger Things has become a phenomenon that is hard to ignore. Even UO got into the Stranger Things hype on Twitter the day season 2 came out. AHS Cult, new Halloween (stand alone. I just don't see another mash-up blumhouse), IT, Stranger Things (we really need to come up with an abbreviation besides ST for this. I'm lazy and don't wanna have to type it all), and another IP make marketing sense. We all know the IPs are marketing babies, although, IT would be a labor of love for A&D imo. I, purposefully, didn't include The Conjuring since I do not want the Warrens to mar the event. Conjuring' legal issues, also, place it in a rather dubious position. That's 5 IPs. This year gave originals a boost. Their popularity was undeniable. 5/4 may be our new template. Wishful thinking should trend more toward a 4/5, or a truly pie in the sky 3/6. I think 5/4 is an apropos speculation, and that any 6/3 spec is more wishful thinking now. -

I'm an avid and rabid Stephen King fan. I've been reading his books for 25 years. IT was my first. IT is still my favorite. Not just favorite King book, but favorite book ever. Giving everyone the ability to math my age, I first read IT at 12 (I've always been a precocious horror fan). My first copy of the book disintegrated under the wear of many read throughs. Yes, I want IT. I'm still not convinced IT will happen. I don't want to even hope for IT, for fear of disappointment. -

Given others' guesses, if they are correct... Your hair is winter fire January embers My heart burns there, too. ^That could explain the haiku. I've made my stance on how likely I believe this to be well-known. As in, not likely at all. EDIT: My cynical optimist wants me to add: I will gobble up all the crow offered to me, if I am wrong. Let me be wrong... -

After seeing this DIY demogorgon costume, I think A&D can pull off the demogorgon and the demodogs. The Upside Down and monsters from Stranger Things make for a great haunt atmosphere. Only problem I can see for us, we'd have to figure out how to abbreviate it. We love our abbreviations, but ST is already taken. -

Bldg 79B (parade building 2.0) had construction start last year or the year before. To my knowledge, B79B is complete or should be. You have eased my mind. I could be misinterpreting the tweets. I don't do well with goodbyes and it may be my own paranoia. -
Halloween Horror Nights 28 Speculation

Everyone is speculating about potential houses/zones, and I'm over here having a mini panic attack from Murdy and Mike's tweets. The creative landscape may be changing. And Mike's recent tweets of the empty park feel too much like goodbye tweets for my taste. -
Linking two holidays brings to mind the 2011 house, Holidays of Horror. As Doc pointed out with a tweet last night, Veterans Day is Remembrance Day in the U.K. It was Armistice Day in the U.S. until the 50s(?). This brings to mind WWI which links to the Nightingales (also from 2011). Of course, I could be completely wrong. Now for some potential meat for spec: A tweet from Murdy has alluded to the end of the event this year being extra sentimental. Talk has moved to it being a possibility that this is Murdy's last year. While Murdy is Hollywood, any change in Hollywood Creative could impact our event.
-
Hard to say. It's only been the past few years where the event has extended past Halloween. One year, all it took was a random comment from Roddy that 2009 would be classic. It kicked off spec earlier than it had ever started. I think the event was still going when Roddy made the comment. Being a member of The Collective, and following all things LegendaryTruth, I would not be surprised if we see some inkling of next year at the Social Media Meet-Up or a possible resurgence of LT activity very soon. This, of course, would kick start spec. I've been spec'ing on the significance of an Easter Egg in AvED since the start of the event. Having finally seen it, I have to wonder why A&D chose to advance/expand the story of Dr. Mary Agana. Edit to add: Halloween and Veterans Day are holidays. The countdown, if that's what it is, will link two holidays.
-
So, the countdown started on Halloween and ends on Veterans Day.

To add: Creative and Marketing are two separate departments or "entities". Just as legal and guest services are two separate departments or "entities". While these multiple "entities" must work as a whole, they have entirely separate responsibilities.
-
Yes, seriously. He is the Creative Director of the content created for the parks. Not all powerful corporate suit. His position is not as high and powerful as you seem to believe it to be. Have you ever worked in a large corporation? You are told when, how, and who you can speak to in the media. Everyone, from the CEO to the janitor, must have interviews approved and vetted. No one gets to decide who they will or will not give interviews to. There is no executive position with ultimate desicion making abilities.

I think Hive represents an extreme amount of creativity. They had to design a concept to fit within a already built frame in a month (maybe two). That's extraordinarily creative.
-
I have no opinions on USA Today since I use them primarily for entertainment news. As for you thoughts regarding Aiello, why does him giving an interview (part of his job as Creative Director) mean he is corporate now? He has no control over who he interviews with. He has no control of when that interview is released. And he has no control over Marketing. There's never been a question as to whether it is targeted to the masses or not. Universal is a business. The diehard fans of an event are not the target, but again, that has nothing to do with Aiello or any members of A&D. They are a separate department from Marketing. They make creative decisions, not marketing decisions.

Best guesses: Gothicombs (I know it's most likely The Fallen, but I like Gothicombs better ) Dust Bowl Bayou (Dead Waters, right?)

You'd think that, but The Conjuring has shown that rights' issues can crop up at any moment. Everyone assumed that the lawsuit would be considered frivolous and be easily dismissed. They assumed it would go away. It hasn't. When dealing with intellectual properties, rights' issues are always a possibility.

You mean like this? "Type Two vampires are former humans who have been bitten by a Type One vampire and the vampire uses his blood to mix with theirs to turn them. Type Two vampires have both limited intelligence and almost no free will, serving almost entirely as an extension of the Type One vampire that bit them. Type Twos have an "unquenchable thirst" for blood, yet are extremely allergic to ultraviolet light, resulting in them shunning daytime for night activities.[2]" Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_(Stephen_King) That wiki does a decent job of explaining King's lore and some of the discrepancies found within his canon. Primarily, the inconsistency of Barlow's more human look compared to all the other "Grandfathers" in his books. The "queen" is simply a "Grandfather". Type Twos are the drones. I wish the new Tower movie would have focused more on the inhabitants of the Dixie Pig. They act in the fashion you speak in Song of Susannah, if I remember correctly. *points to profile pic* That isn't just a cute phrase with a horror twist that I found fitting for the forum.
-
A hive like nature is very common amongst vampire lore. There usually is a "queen" or Master vampire, if you prefer. An elder vampire who controls all his/her little drone vampires. So, you've probably hit the nail on the head. From Dracula to The Lost Boys to Salem's Lot, a "head" vampire is a common part of the lore. Edit: The head vampire is usually the one who creates the "drones". Also, inviting in the head vampire negates all the rules and potential power of objects such as crucifixes and garlic. Killing the head usually kills the vampires he/she made.

Going purely by the image tweeted by HHNO, I'd say there are angels in the house battling something.

She doesn't fit the aesthetics of a voodoo house.

I'm going to have to alter my agreement with @ForeverEvil1 4th pic of razor wire isn't for Scarecrows. It's Saw. After really looking at the pic, no way that form of wire would be used on a farm.

Mascots vs Icons. I think Festival of the Deadliest is our Soul Collectors. Overall theme seeping into other areas with centralized zone.
