one thing is for sure, this won't be a trailer house like Woman was.

And? HOS is in its 15th year, is an arguable step down in quality, and has nowhere near the resources available to do IPs (ie - none). HoS is where Universal was a decade ago in almost all facets. An icon is necessary when your big brother down the road can pick up the biggest names in horror.
Universal doesn't need icons now. Why is that (objectively) a bad thing?
it just kind of feels incomplete without it. I understand the event evolves and changes but it just feels incomplete without a main face. I just don't see what's so bad about having an icon. or why was it so hard for them to make icons for 2012 or 2013, since they were already coming up with characters for the streets anyways.

I see ... yeah 4 zones def leaves a lot of open space in the streets that fog and ambiance music just can't fill. Maybe they could move Geishas elsewhere? Idk I hope that they fill up the streets more than just 4 zones ... I mean I know The Purge and Face Off are supposed to be large but still...
Everyone hates on the streets from 2012 but I think a lot of groups around would be better than just 4 zones.

To be honest, they could do this entire house with only one scareactor: a Predator "fighting" an Alien (prop) in the final scene. The rest of it is noises, lasers and effects that give the "hunted" atmosphere.
oh... I kind of disagree. I hope the predators and the aliens show up as much as possible, suspense and tension might work for movies but I would be sad if they house was nothing but human character, noises and lights.
I understand they might only make a couple of aliens because of the cost but I hope there are a lot of preds at least.

Short answer? Because the #1 show on television is going to generate a lot more interest in the general public than a character created specifically for the event.
When we lack a strong IP, we'll probably see a return to icons to drum up interest.
but like I said earlier, I don't understand why they couldn't take one walker and made him the "Icon" of the event. one main zombie that would had his own photo op like lady luck did and that showed up on shirts and stuff.
the thing is that they don't even have to try too hard with coming up with an icon, look at hos...

sounds like the story for the house will actually be better than the stories in both movies... wow.

how likely would it be for them to do just a predator for another year?
Like someone else said, the focus seems to be mostly on the aliens with some predators thrown in, but I wonder if they could do a predator house by itself later on? -
*Cough* Busta Rhymes kung fu scene *cough, cough* make it happen, lol.
they need to make a Zombie's halloween room and a Resurrection room hahaha

HHN might not be going anywhere but what if it becomes more child friendly?

the icon doesn't need to have a house or even an entire scarezone made for them. But I miss having an Icon a lot. And thinking about the last two years, I think they could have made one of the characters in the street an Icon. For 2012 the Iniquitous could have been the icons of the event. last year one of the walkers could have been the main Icon leading the other walkers into the park. Universal already creates characters for the streets so I don't see what the problem is with making one of them the Icon of the event. have them show up on billboards and shirts (I know I would have loved to have an Iniquitous Icon t-shirt)
I understand some people don't care at all about icons and they don't want them to waste time on creating them, but they already have to create characters for the streets anyway. Why couldn't they create a Main character that is leading the rest? Last year they could have easily made one of the walkers the leader of the horde. Even the walker crawling on the floor could have technically been the Icon if they made a stage for him at the event. (same with the deer walker)
My point is that they don't even have to try too hard with coming up with an icon, they already had characters that could have worked as icons for the past 2 years.
For me it is nice to be able to see the character I Saw on the website and on billboards at the park. (It is almost like seeing a celebrity in person) They could just make it a photo op and have a little stage for the character. that would be enough for me as far as icons go. It could be something simple that doesn't take a lot of time or budget, Just like they did with the Lady Luck at the entrance of the park.

how was it rigged?

would the streets have any props?

what was ritual supposed to be?

I feel very concerned about the female scareactors in this house. drunk guests seeing scantly clad vampires aren't going to go well for them.
If I was making this house I would put the girls in cages or behind some kind of bars (kind of like how the dogs of War were behind stuff in the house last year)
It might not be accurate but I can see some guy getting too friendly by seeing vampire strippers. Safety over design.

maybe it's just me but I would rather not have 9 houses and just have 8 really good houses, Quality over quantity. What good are 9 houses if half won't even be that great or that detailed?
As for the website I understand being a waste to create games or interactive menus if the only thing people want is the info and nothing more, But I wish they at least hired a good artist to make the website look good. I don't mind not getting games but they should at least make the site look creative. The past couple of years the website has not been appealing at all. The website seems to just be getting more lame each year. -
it does suck to go in a house before seeing the movie. some things don't make sense, a lot of things are missed because you didn't know what to look for, to me some houses feel disorienting. Some details definitely get lost if I didn't see it.
The quality of the house might be the same but my experience is very different if I saw the movie or not. I tend to appreciate the house more if I saw the movie. I was completely lost in Dead Silence. I understood what the movie was about but I couldn't fully enjoy all the detail they put into that house. When I finally saw the movie I was pretty upset that I didn't try to see it earlier because then things made sense. Same thing with the Wolfman, great house but still...... -
the movie looks great, (At least it is a new take on vampires) But yeah I agree I cannot see how this will make a house. I can't picture it.

the problem with a Rob Zombie halloween house is that half of the house would be about Michael Myers being a kid with the clown mask and about having him with the orange paper mask that he had when he escapes from the institution.
If we are getting a Halloween House I would want to see the regular white mask the whole time, not have Michael with long hair and a bath robe in some of the rooms. Regardless of how you feel about the movies, but for a haunted house it wouldn't be good since half of the movie is a prequel.
(And if they decided to make the house based on the second half of the movie, then there would be no point in making it from Rob Zombie's version since it would be the same as the original)-

Why does everyone assume that there will be a bunch of marines or humans in the Alien house?? Think about it: there have been IP mazes in the past that could have easily had a bunch of humans in it. (TWD, Resident Evil, AWIL). Instead, the trick is that the maze makes YOU the victims. YOU are the ones in trouble. Also, just because there is one alien in the movie, they could have it be as if it is following you throughout the facility and popping out of the walls at you! It's just like how they always do it. YOU are the role of the victim. The Cabin In The Woods maze made YOU apart of the story. You had entered the facility and you were trying to escape. Think about it: In this alien house, YOU are the space marines and the systems have been shut down. The aliens are on the loose and are hunting you. Your mission is to survive...The creatures are hunting YOU down. No need for actors as victims.
well it is not really fair to compare TWD or Resident Evil to an Alien house. (It has to do with practicality in the costumes). zombies are pretty much just "humans with blood and make up" and they didn't even get masks for RE (plus Nemesis only showed up twice and that costume was not that great either) WD was nothing but dead humans trying to eat you. AWIL had humans in it as well. For the AVP house I would rather see more predators than people with guns.
I think having Predator is a good thing.
-
MOSTLY aliens with Predator "clicking" and red lasers tracking and stuff would be cool...with only a Predator or two showing up at the end.
My guess is that it might be the opposite, a couple of Alien puppets like AWIL and maybe more predators and human victims.( It would probably be more practical that way. )
I don't know about you guys but I Much rather have more Predators showing up than a lot of soldiers or humans from the movies. Yeah an Aliens house would be cool, but I wouldn't want to see a bunch of soldiers and then just a couple of aliens.
throwing predator into the mix seems like a win/win because you get to see great alien puppets or alien costumes, and instead of just humans you get to see predators (probably both masked and unmasked)

so far we don't know anything about the dracula movie do we? are there a lot of vampires? is Dracula the only one? is he even a vampire in the movie?
I see some people talk about other monsters that might be used for the house, so the movie will have other creatures? For all we know this house might end up having all kinds of crazy creatures in it -

I actually think they did really well with The Thing reboot. The maze was awesome!
What an awful movie.... the CGI was pretty horrible. I don't know what Uni was thinking. (The house was better than the movie was actually, I only have fond memories of the house)
Doomsday was literally a waste of space. And the movie wasn't even a horror movie, They might as well do Mad Max as a house next time ( same thing but better IP) that Was the worst ip we've had.
As for Dracula, I don't mind the house and it might be good. But what I don't like is how they gave Halloween a tent. I know Poe was great and tent houses are not necessarily bad but It's just not the same, and I'm still not too thrilled about it specially if Dracula is on a stage.
-
At this point, a 3D maze would be a hell of a risk, with all the speculation saying otherwise.
how come?
-
I'm interested to see how this "Alien Vs Predator" Maze plays out. It'll be especially cool to see how they create the Aliens. I'm thinking the Aliens would have to be mechanical puppets, like the AWIL werewolves from last year.
I would die if they are able to make a queen alien (not the whole creature of course, but at least the head of the queen coming out of a hole or something) I am really happy about seeing this house.
I wonder what kind of setting will it have? a spaceship? the pyramid temple from the movie?

yeah I am disappointed in the street stuff as well. Maybe this year will be great but 4 sounds very small. There will a lot of dead space again.
people loved to hate on the street stuff in 2012 but at least the park had 8 groups, What might happen this year is that people might complain about the empty streets and they might try to add some more actors just like they did in previews years. I could see them trying to add some actors with random costumes again around the back of the park
It is like they never learn. They keep cutting on the streets only to have to half ass something later during the event.
