  1. I wished the whole maze would have been based off of the first movie, It would have been pretty awesome to walk through there in the cold with those sci-fi looking walls. Alas, a part of me figured that it wouldn't be practical being able to pull off the giant pyramid. I haven't seen the second film, but judging from the locations Zero mentioned, I don't see how they could incorporate the 16 ft. walls solely off of Requiem. My theory is that they'll include the Alien Queen or a scene in the space ship as an original creative liberty (i.e. how the asylum was added in Halloween). There's no way they would just incorporate both movies into one maze. It would be extremely strange to transition jumping from one continent to another in a few seconds. Not to mention that they can only fit so much in that space. Doing some of their own creative liberties to incorporate it into the Requiem environments would be the best solution to get the best of both films. I see this as the most-likely scenario being that Murdy has not outright said it's going to be based on one of the films.

    Redundant VS Redundancy: Redundant

if they based it on the first movie it would have been kind of boring I think. all the walls would look the same and the first room and the last room would probably look the same as well.

There is a lot more variety with Requiem

  2. Commercial's up for Hollywood. It's still the same for us though. Walking Dead focused. Personally actually do prefer it from last year's.

EDIT: My mistake, didn't watch it through presuming it would be the same. They got AVP and Halloween in there, so that's cool.

They should have a disclaimer at the bottom of the commercial that says "Walkers in the park will not look this good" lol

Didn't they make a CGI resident Evil movie that was set in an airport in 08? something to do with Claire and Leon?

  3. I know the stuff with the clowns ending up in the street was nothing but wishful thinking and speculation, but I am really really disappointed and just sad that they are leaving that street empty.
seems like a huge wasted opportunity. now that I think about it, they wouldn't even need props to make it work, just a bunch of crazy clowns running around.

Oh well. Perhaps they might add them if people complain or something lol.

  4. Personally I think Orlando's looks more clean and professional.

I don't know, I disagree with this. I think it's the opposite, theirs looks more professional. Ours feels like the layout of a site that was supposed to have a lot more stuff in it.

I wish they at least added some music to the site. I wouldn't mind the way it looks like right now if it at least had some music to listen to. I miss that more than anything.

even cheap, local haunts from other cities have music in their site...... Just saying.

  5. I wouldn't be too excited over the series. I made it through the first five episodes watching it online. It's pretty weak.

yeah I didn't want to say anything but the show sucks. It is just like a lame crappy remake.

my fear for this house is that we will get rooms like the "liquor store room" or the "bank room" or "hotel room" or something like that. Or if the first couple of rooms don't even have vampires at all

  6. I know a lot of people seem to not like the ips at the event, but honestly I don't mind them at all. I just really don't like all the ips being shared. What made last year cool was we had Awil and cabin and Hollywood didn't. Same as them having insidious and black Sabbath. It made the events unique in there own way and I truly hope next year we can only share 1-2 ips if we have any at all. Cause 4 is just a bit much imo but really 6 if we count the purge and each of our face off experiences.

but it makes more sense for them to do it that way. if they got a property, why not use it on both sides?

  7. 2002 - Screamhouse

    2003 - PsychoScarepy, I think

    2004 - Castle Vampyr

    Break

2009 - Dracula Legacy of Blood

2010 - Havoc, with the important caveat that Catacombs was essentially disqualified during the final week. At least Hades didn't win.

2011 - Officially, a tie between In-Between and Forsaken. In-Between had the best numbers throughout the event. Forsaken basically won most improved.

    2012 - Gothic

    2013 - American Werewolf

The thing with house of the year is that guests reaction have very little to do with who wins. They help, but there are a ton of other variables that go in to account.

CAST TURN-OVER - When a member of a cast quits and has to be replaced, that's a count against them.

    LATE/NO-SHOWS

    GUEST COMPLAINTS

GUEST THROUGHPUT - How many people that actually go through a house matters a great deal. If a house gets shut down for any extended period of time, that can hurt a house's chances. Also, if the cast is "scaring back" instead of forward, that lowers the number of people that can go through in an hour.

And the most important thing is simply...

    WHICH ONE MANAGEMENT LIKES MOST

When you take those things in to account, there are only a couple of things you can actually use to predict prior to anything happening: Throughput and management's favorite. This year, "Giggles and Gore" and TWD may have a major advantage in throughput. TWD will have a massive occupancy rate (but could easily slow down). G&G can rush people through the house and be easy to get repeat visitors. If I had to guess a favorite, the easy bet is Roanoke because it was planned last year.

But that's ignoring the trend... What trend?

Every five years... and Vampire house featuring a castle wins. Castle Vampyr in 2004... Dracula in 2009... and what do we have in 2014?

    why was catacombs disqualified?

  8. I have heard from an insider that they think Dollhouse of the Damned might be the dark horse house this year which just makes me think of Havoc: Dogs of War, Catacombs, and The Inbetween. If the actors really take it up a notch, I think it could be something special.

Somehow, I sort of think AvP has such high expectations that it might end up disappointing which is why I agree that Dracula: Untold could be the surprise hit of the IP houses.

Giggles and Gore is probably not a contender like you said, but it may get high ratings just do to the clown factor. If it does spill into the streets, I think we could see HHN's shortest house end up with some surprisingly high ratings.

Roanoke looks awesome but may suffer from a lack of knowledge by the GP. I mean, I cannot even tell you how many times I heard people saying 2011's WWII house was okay. The history houses, while my favorites, can get lost in translation.

I also think that AVP's expectations are so high it might backfire on them. I think D:U will surprise everyone and might be the scariest house

  9. I'd be more interested to see a smaller number of scarezones that are LARGER and more expansive and well-themed than what I saw in 2011 when I last saw 6 scarezones. They were small and underwhelming. I'm hoping they will be larger and they seem to be more exciting with scenes like a sacrifice, an auction and real motorcycles mixed in with all of this!

There could also be some roaming or photo-op scareactors thrown in for good measure, to make sure there are no dead spots, and if the scarezones get bad reception to start, I'm sure they will add something like this like they have in the past...or maybe even a 25th anniversary preview. Let's just wait and see instead of preemptively whining about it.

yeah if they do something like this, it could end up being amazing.

I would love longer scarezones. Not sure if they could do that or not but that would be really awesome. if these 4 zones were twice the size of regular zones I wouldn't be saying anything negative.

Maybe they want to surprise people with the extra clown zone but if they really are going to make something with the clowns in the streets I wish they let us know. Knowing that there will be 5 zones would be better.

  10. There is no satisfying everyone. But even I have to agree that there are certain areas of the park that could use some work. Considering the amount of money I'll be spending there it would be nice to be fully immersed in Halloween/horror surroundings. They don't even need to go overboard with huge elaborate decorations, just have most of the park covered. Since they took out the Jaws ride, the back section of the park has been pretty much completely void of anything Halloween/horror related.

Like I said a while back...An example of what I'm talking about applies to Sting Alley last year. How in the world do you not take advantage of putting something scary in that alley?

Even if all they did was add more colored lights and some scary music in some of the areas (like Springfield) it could be enough to make the entire park feel nicer.
the other areas don't even need that much.
light, music and maybe some fog would be enough to change these areas to match the event. I understand the budget is limited but they won't even try simple stuff like this.

I wish they at least tried to change some things around in all the dead areas the park will have

  11. I guess people will find something to complain about no matter what. The bring scare zones back and it's not enoughbecause it's only four, if they gkept the format of the last couple of years then that's bad as well. It's like nothing's never good enough.

Still, many cool ideas in these boards, let's wait and see how it all plays out for those dead zones.

I never had any problem with the hordes in 2012. the actors were everywhere, they were fun, their costumes were interesting.

4 zones sounds very little for a park that is so big. Universal keeps disregarding the streets so much, soon the park won't be any different from the daytime except for the music.

maybe you don't care at all about the streets but for some of us the streets are as important as the houses. Specially when the lines for the houses are 2 hours. when that happens is when the streets really shine because while people wait 2 hours to see a house for 5 minutes you can walk in the zones as many times as you want and get scared just as many times.

The houses are great but they alone do not make the event. the shows and the streets make HHN what it is. take those away and all you get is the regular park with scary music. What's fun about that?

  12. Exactly, there are a lot of cool elements in the streets this year and I cannot remember any year where they just left Kid's zone to SF empty (OK OK 2007 :P).

They will put something back there. I would think if they don't do some cool Clown deal with some props they are missing an oppertunity I mean they have props just lying around from the bizzare's of the past. It could be like a mini Midway of the Bizzare... And everyone loved Midway. Still just clowns like they've done with zombies in the past would be fine.

They also have the area by HP in front for potential, both sides of the bride have been used, Kid zone/animal actors. I'm sure everything won't be empty.

this might be a dumb question that might have an obvious answer, But how come they don't bring out props and sets for the streets from years before? in a year like 2012, how come they didn't bring out some of the stuff from previous streets?

Is it because it would be too messy or wouldn't make sense? Do they destroy stuff? I think I would rather have streets that didn't make sense story wise rather than empty streets

  13. I feel this is almost like easing back into scarezones with different stories, after doing two years of not doing that. The reason there's only four, I feel as they may be saving quite a few good ideas for the 25TH Aniv. Who knows, maybe the Geisha zone we lost this year may get it's dues next year.

I heard it was due to the budget cuts. That's why I am being kind of pessimistic about it.

  14. so if there is a surprise and the wendigo is a spirit, does that mean the house will be full of human characters and the wendigo will just show up in the last room as a surprise?

as for the legend, I always knew it as a wendigo being a real thing and not a spirit, I don't understand why the legend got screwed up over time because i never heard it as a spirit until now. I wonder what made it change with people telling it

  15. I am really hoping they add props and a lot of stuff for a scarezone at the end of this house.

If they were able to make some sort of insane zone outside with balloons and music and lots of lights flashing and then have clowns with chainsaws then maybe the lack of rooms won't matter. I hope they have some sort of plan for the streets in here. It would be kind of awful if they don't add at least a scarezone or just some actors roaming around after the house is over.
    Not too impressed by this

(I kind of wish the cannibal house was in here instead with just the 7 rooms. I would have wish they switched places. Oh well...)
