Halloween Horror Nights 26 Discussion
ThNdIzNiR replied to Mark M.'s topic in Halloween Horror Nights 26
I'm pretty sure there were at least 2 different barker actors that switched out. They both were good, but 1 of them was hilarious. The beginning was definitely the most memorable for my group. Obviously the ending room was pretty good too. Anyone else surprised that there doesn't seem to be an announcement? -
Yeah... Feeling-wise last year might have been even worse than HHN 22 for me (although close). Even with express there were a few lines that were quite lengthy. For some reason I didn't enjoy the Bill & Ted show. Most noticeable for me though was the amount of pain/fatigue I experienced due to my damaged spine. The meds they put me on made drinking beer rather unenjoyable. For some reason, I just felt icky and gross. I didn't even close out the event every night we were there which was a 1st. We also had trouble finding the last minute turkey drumsticks before they closed during the nights we stayed until the end. I just wasn't into last year as much as most of the other years I've attended. Hopefully my mindset is better this year when I attend. I got a feeling the lines this year are going to be something special (and not in a good way).

Adding cold (especially when it's real warm outside) adds a whole additional layer of quality to the walkthrough. If they keep it the same temperature even with all the fake snow, which I'm sure will be present, we'll be missing out on a whole sense's worth of feedback. In my opinion, it would seem pretty weak. It would be like walking through the baby crib area of Dollhouse of the Damned (HHN 24) and them not using the fake poop smell. They have the technology, so they mine as well use it optimally. If they don't have enough common sense to make it cooler for an ip house that takes place in a blizzard, I'll be a bit stunned. It's not like it has to be 100 below zero... As long as the temperature dips enough from the outside to the inside it may be enough to trick you that it's cold since the drop took place so fast. When you get all sweaty from walking around outside and then walk into a room that is blowing cool air on you it seems even colder. Add a bunch of fake snow blowing on top of that and then you may feel like you're in a snowstorm. I wonder how much snow machine liquid they're going to burn through and if it will only be snowing at the facade or if we'll be snowed on in a few spots throughout the house (assuming any of this even happens at all)... One more comment about the temperature and being in the zone... Personally I'd prefer it if the event was held somewhere up where I live. Walking around in 80+ temperatures during a Halloween event just seems off to me in general. I prefer cool evenings in the 50's and low 60's with the autumn leaves blowing in the wind. You guys don't even get a real fall. So yeah, I'm biased when it comes to temperatures. -

Nothing there keeps me "in the zone" and I don't attend the event to get scared. I go there to see how well they execute sets, makeups, costumes, etc. I want to see how well they can take an ip and in essence bring it to life. I also enjoy seeing what type of creative designs they come up with in regards to original material and how they attempt to pull off the various scares. It's funny that Winter's Night was brought up because the opening area was one of the areas that was more memorable than many others over the years and that was in part because of the cooler temperature and the snow effect that was falling. There is no way the opening would have been as effective outside a tent. Clearly the cold or snow doesn't make it scarier, but like it was mentioned, it added to the atmosphere which is the main reason I attend. With that said, putting Krampus in a tent would be foolish. The whole movie pretty much takes place in a blizzard. It is 1 of the key elements of the movie. Why bother doing an ip like that if they're not going to do it right? The only way it could get any worse is if they dress up scare actors as gingerbread men. -
I've only been attending since 2010, but I'll put in my 2 cents. HHN 22 (2012) was the year I think is worst by far. For starters, I wasn't a fan of most of the houses. The Walking Dead house was by far their worst version of TWD. I thought the Penn & Teller house was kinda cheesy. I got injured having to duck in the Universal's House of Horrors, so that 1 sucked for me. The only real good 1 that year was 1 called Gothic. Another reason why I wasn't a fan of that year in particular was because of the weather (which isn't Universal's fault obviously). There was a hurricane (Sandy) churning off the coast which caused them to shut some things down and it rained quite a bit. Most importantly of all though was the fact there were no scare zones that year only roaming hordes. Not only were there no scare zones, they hardly decorated at all for the event that year. I remember walking around thinking you'd never even know it was HHN. The roaming hordes were the biggest fail ever in my opinion. I know many were displeased with the following year's scare zones because they were all themed TWD, but at least there were zones scattered around the park as opposed to nothing.

Can it be done in a tent, sure... Will it suck if they do, yes. The coldness is a huge part of the movie. Maybe they only used cold 1 time because there really wasn't a need for them to, it's not like there were many (if any) houses that required it like this would. If they chose to use a tent for this 1, I'll be pretty disappointed. -

So they may announce AHS next Thurs. or Friday and Krampus last (ip)? It would definitely make sense for the AHS announcement to take place at SDCC. I can't believe how long they're waiting to announce Krampus over in Hollywood. The whole house is probably built by now. -

So I guess we're not getting the Krampus announcement this week? -
Spooky!

Let's hope that if they do have the grass imprint, it is more accurate than the 1 represented in the movie. Check out the size at :40 seconds and tell me that is what Michael looks like. Another odd tidbit I've noticed from watching the movie quite a few times (which isn't represented in this clip below) is that Loomis actually shoots at Michael 7 times, not 6. . It is a neat trick though, because I think his gun only holds 6 bullets. He later insists that he shot him 6 times which is untrue.

How about that announcement? It was almost comical how little effort and excitement there was behind it. It was kinda like, psssstt... hey TWD is coming back, that is all, carry on. -

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of AHS... I just can't understand why it would be the theoretical ip centerpiece this year. -

Well... I suppose that if they made TWD into another megahouse this year there might have been riots, but it still has more of a fan base than AHS. -

I don't know why I'm having so much trouble believing that AHS is the megahouse. It just seems wrong to me that an ip that has been dipping in popularity is going to have the largest house in HHN history. For the life of me though, I can't really think of any ip worth that kind of treatment that isn't already being used or has just been used to an extent last year. Like I think I said a while back, the only other weak picks I could come up with would be Tales From the Crypt or Hellraiser. There definitely is enough Hellraiser material to build a megahouse, but I just don't see it and Tales From the Crypt is probably not popular enough anyways to the younger crowds. I guess it has to be AHS. Think about it... Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, The Exorcist, and The Walking Dead weren't chosen to be made into this megahouse. What is going to draw more crowds than those ips? Nothing. -

I don't know about the Chance original, but TWD is sharing a SS with an original. June 3rd tweet... This = TWD This will be a located in one of our soundstages and be shared with an unannounced original maze. All I know is that Krampus better not end up in a tent... That would be pretty weak. -

I know a lot of people want Krampus to come, but does it really deserve the megahouse treatment? I'd be shocked if it was. -
Am I the only one that wants to see Michael drowning/burning someone to death with the hot tub? Obviously they couldn't use a real actor for the drowning person, but I'd laugh my butt off if they did it with some sort of dummy.

Someone over on the Hollywood side said we might be getting Jabbawockeez for our 2nd show. Please tell me this isn't true. Are we even getting a 2nd show for certain? -

Well... Since today's announcement is almost definitely going to be some variation of Halloween, does that also mean that Hollywood is getting the same announcement? I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't announce Krampus over there 1st considering the construction totally gives it away. -

They really wanted to do AWiL though. It is a cult classic and one of the best werewolf movies ever made (possibly the best). They even brought John Landis in to help out. I'd find it hard to believe that the same level of excitement would be present while recreating AHS (just my opinion). Why would they even bother with it now when it is tanking, especially after the fallout of sorts a couple years back? It just seems like an odd time to bring it on. I don't know how the dealing works behind the scenes to get whatever rights to the movies/shows they use, but I hope Universal got a good deal if they are using AHS. -

Assuming it is AHS, they probably should have chosen to use it a couple years back. Even though it's still one of FX's best shows (ratings) and worth watching, it's popularity has lost some steam. Looking at the numbers, I think that they get a lot of people to watch the premieres because a. they advertise the show relentlessly going into it, b. people wanted to see Lady Gaga (last season), and c. they take place in October which is obviously a time when people go out of their way to see spooky tv. Last season was the worst overall season yet and the viewership pretty much reflects it. At the premiere they had a solid 5.81 million viewers, but during the finale only 2.24 million were watching. Now I suppose there are other factors that could have contributed to this, for instance, maybe there was another show or sporting event taking place that pulled the viewers over. However, no matter how you look at it, it's not good at all. From the little I read about what's taking place this season, I'm not too overly excited about this season's prospects either (children and an opera singer). I know I'll end up watching it though (especially in October), since there really isn't anything similar to it on tv that I'm aware of. -

Did they make an official announcement back in 2001 when they changed stuff?
