  1. I always read about people complaining about how many drunks are at the event. I've been going since HHN 20 and I've never seen 1 drunken fight. I'm not even sure that I've seen anyone get sick (outside a restroom). There are a bunch a of rowdy/loud people all over, but who cares about that? These people are just having a good time and letting loose.

I don't get it... I've yet to come across any drunken people problems in all the time I've gone.

I agree with this. The changes suck; the food is much worse than past years and the alcohol situation is really unfortunate, but the houses are good.

Do they still have twisted taters and turkey drumsticks? What exactly is the alcohol situation?

    Original House Names per Legacy:

"The Hive" - Vampires - "Hive"

"The Fallen" - Angels / Demons - "Crater"

"Dead Waters" - Voodoo Bayou - "Paddle"

"Scarecrows - Dustbowl" - Scarecrows Dustbowl - "Brains"

He did say specifics were hard so he could be on point or wildly off.

Nothing confirmed until officially announced. Not that I care about the names, that statement is towards others.

I'm looking forward to the Dustbowl house, but I really hope that isn't the proper name for it. I know that names don't really matter, but c'mon, Scarecrows - Dustbowl??? That just sounds sorta cheesy.

  4. Not to hijack the thread, but has anyone here gone to any of the haunts in Pennsylvania? We're making a pilgrimage of sorts to check out several of the haunts they have there and I was wondering if anyone here has been to that area and knows some good ones. Right now, I have Terror Behind the Walls (Eastern State Penitentiary),  Pennhurst Haunted Asylum, Field of Screams, and the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride. If anyone has some quick input, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

Purge is becoming the new walking dead. yes yes to a lesser degree.

It may be even worse in a way. Although you still had zombies over and over again, at least the surroundings in the houses were all different. I'm getting ready for a complete rehash this year in The Purge scare zone. At worst, they could have moved this zone over to the Avenue of the Stars.

  6. I'm glad they're finally dispensing some info about the event. It's about damn time.

I still can't believe that this will be the last year for Bill & Ted. My wife and I agreed that if there comes a day when Bill & Ted are gone that we'll stop going. I guess I might be going on that cruise next year. Such sad news.

The scare zone names are pretty lazy. But do the names really matter? I don't think so really. I don't know whether to be happy or sad about Trick 'r Treat. I've been hoping for it to make an appearance at HHN for years now (as a house). The fact that it will be jammed into Central Park isn't inspiring my confidence that it will get the showing it deserves. I am looking forward to see it though.

Even though I enjoyed the series, there was no need to bring The Purge back. Why rehash the same theme in the same area again?

Not to pick on any one person, but instead to aim a general statement at the sentiment, you say that you'd like to know what you've spent your money on, but you do know.  We know that there will be several house mazes, long lines, alcohol, and fun scarezones to hang out and watch people get scared.  Is there a possibility that if they announced a specific house you would call universal and cancel the whole thing?

At this point, I'm not going to cancel my whole trip. However, I'm aggravated enough to the point where I'm strongly considering not going next year and instead going on a cruise. I don't want to feel this way again next year if this is how they're going to handle things. A portion of my enjoyment is discussing what I'll be seeing with the people I go with and all of you guys/gals. I obviously also like to rewatch whatever ips are used before the event to get my hype meter up. This year's marketing has been so flat (negative), that I'm honestly not even really excited about attending for the first time ever. That is just a shame. I guess I just like to have a clear picture of sorts when I go on my trips. Maybe if I lived only driving distance to the event I wouldn't care as much because I'd probably be attending no matter what and I'd take it for granted, however that is not the case.

If we know all the houses, why are we all complaining?  Technically Universal doesn't owe us anything until the end of the month.  At this point I just feel like everyone is whining.

If Universal doesn't "owe us" anything until the end of August, why bother even having a marketing department? Isn't it their job to get all people from different locations (not just locals) to the event? Waiting until just a couple weeks before opening to announce stuff is not going to get that job done. I'm already in about $2,000 on a vacation that I don't know hardly anything about. This isn't whining, it's pointing out the fact that regardless of what they "used to do", it's really not cool to not know what I've spent my $ on at this point. Also, by them not giving us information it leaves me to believe that they themselves don't believe the lineup is strong enough to pull people from out of town so why bother releasing it. I know we have a theoretical list of houses already, but until it is announced officially I could care less what the list says.

My final opinion about all of this:

    Today sucked. Obviously. Big disappointment.

But I personally think Marketing's actions shouldn't affect our opinions of CREATIVE's work. I believe Creative's successes can make up for Marketing's failures once we enter the gates.

Bad Marketing does not equal a dead year. I think it's a very short-sighted way to look at things, to say it kindly.

Bad marketing doesn't equal a bad year, but it does have an effect on the hype/excitement of preparing to go. Right now my hype meter is beyond low to the point where I'm kinda just angry. I don't want to be angry about going on vacation. I don't feel like I'm asking for a whole lot to actually know what I'm going to see roughly a month before the event begins. This countdown today has to be one of the most absurd gimmicks I've seen. Who actually thought it would be a good idea to do what they did today? When basically all of twitter is trashing marketing in general you know there's a serious problem, but will anything be done about it?

I honestly hope ticket sales go down the toilet this year. That's probably the only way to get through to these people. Like I said before, if marketing is piss poor again next year they won't be getting at least a couple grand from me.

I hope the final product makes up for what I've been presented with this far.

    Um...

    Whatever you're doing...stop.

Go get Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness from the store, library, Pirate Bay, whatever.

    Watch those.

He has to watch the 1st one too or the beginning of the 2nd one won't make as much sense.

If you watch all 3, the show will also make a lot more sense.

Ok.. so I've never seen this show.  I have only watched Evil Dead 1 & 2 (YEARS ago).  I've never seen Army of Darkness.  How many seasons are there?  Can I get this on Netflix?  Do I need to watch.  Educate me, O Young Ones.

2 seasons thus far. If you enjoyed the 1st 2 movies, you'll love the show. It has a great combination of horror, comedy, and gore. If you have Starz, you can watch both seasons right now on demand. You can get it in dvd format from Netflix, but I'm unsure if it's both seasons.

Even if it wasn't at HHN, I'd recommend watching it to any horror fan.

I honestly think they would even then they focus more on 2, I think the fact it's the generally better received and better known in pop culture movie will take priority.

    If it's the movies, I imagine it's 1/4 ED1, 3/4 ED2

From what I've heard it is mostly Evil Dead 2.

If it ends up being mostly material from 2, then I really hope they just call it Evil Dead - fill the blank (like Halloween - Hell Comes to Haddonfield last year) and not Ash vs Evil Dead.

I would prefer the original 2 films as I haven't seen the TV Show.

    Also...

    1. You should see the show. Bruce is awesome.

    2. Aren't you a little concerned that the 2nd movie was a borderline comedy compared to the first one? I think that's why I'm concerned that if the rumor comes to fruition that we'll end up getting mostly stuff from Evil Dead which will make it more of a repeat.

Also from a marketing standpoint it makes perfect sense

How is false advertising perfect sense? hehe

They didn't admit that video thing by the way. That's info from one of our many "insiders" this year.

Ok... That's a little better then. Not having enough time when they probably had months to at least prepare to get it done sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

As far as that vampire/black eyed children house goes, I was thinking maybe more along the lines of something like Let the Right One In (2008) possibly??? I think it would be tough to get all the scare actors to put in sclera contact lenses.
