  1. I liked this house a lot, but my only issue was that it was so dark that you couldn't see much. The Tell-Tale Heart room and that room where Poe is on the balcony especially. I couldn't even tell what the balcony room was supposed to be. Otherwise, great house. Love Poe, loved that he finally got a place at HHN.
  2. I am not starting some debate here, but I just so you know, I do not believe in evolution, so this is coming from a different viewpoint. Guys scream too, but not as often, and when they do, they usually don't admit it. Girls tend to scream more because a) they are weaker then men and have a stronger instinct to call for help/ alert other people and they have been told their whole lives that it is the appropriate and feminine thing to do to scream when scared. Guys are stronger and so have been 'made' to confront threats and have been told that it is the masculine thing to do to hide fear and protect females. Guys will still scream, but in my experience, they have to be much more frightened before they do. Basically, when the threat becomes to big for them to handle alone. So personally, I believe that it is a blend of natural instinct and society's 'rules' on gender. By the way, these are just generalizations, I know that not every guy or girl reacts this way. I don't scream unless I'm having fun; when I'm scared I tend to freeze up. I'm also not a scientist, so I could be totally off the mark.
  3. Well I went yesterday and all the scarezones were empty, I think Saws n Steam was closed, and the lines for the houses were long and flooded. Things also seemed to be pretty chaotic. Next year I will definitely plan ahead for any sort of weather and choose a night earlier in the year when there will be less people. Also, one of my friends is sick after being out in the wet and cold, even though we got there right before 7:00 and left by 11:00.
  4. Would have loved to see this house, but I went last night and was soaked in minutes, so going through a house that's supposed to be so cold that you can see your breath was out of the question. Means I had to skip out on The Things also.... Hopefully I can find some footage on Youtube.
  5. I went yesterday, and while the houses were fun, I was disappointed in my experience. It just seemed like everything went wrong. Brace yourself for a detailed account of my night at HHN. The rain and the cold didn't let up all night, which means that there were no scarezones. We also hadn't dressed for rain, because we had been sure that the weather would clear up eventually. A big mistake on our part, but it didn't help matters. Before getting into the park, we had to wait 30 minutes because for some reason the lines for the metal detectors were moving extremely slow. The screen above the entrance was flashing and static-y, like it had been hit by lightening and was going to explode or something. We made it inside and got in line for The Forsaken and saw that it was a 15 minute wait. The line moves at a good pace, then just stops. We don't move for 20 minutes, then a staff member comes by and says that it's another 25 minutes from where we are. As it turns out, it was 45 minutes from where we were. About 2/3 of the way through the line, a large woman covered in glowsticks and towing a teenage girl starts barreling her way through the line. I asked her what was going on, and she said, "Sorry hun, but we're cutting you." My friend looked at her like she was crazy and the lady said, "B!tch, what you looking at?!" Then she ran ahead, hollering for some guy named Jose. People started booing and telling her to get back in line, and the next thing I know some guy has tackled another guy wearing the same poncho as the glowstick lady (I'm assuming he was Jose), the glowstick lady is off to the side screaming, people are scattering, some other guy starts beating on Jose too, and the teenage girl is screaming, "Stop! I beg of you!" and trying to get in between the men and Jose. And there's no security. No one. There was a nurse selling blood bags nearby, but as far as I know, she didn't do anything. When no staff came to control the situation, several bystanders peeled the men off of Jose, who looks rather drunk. Jose tried to stand and flopped over, so a few more people helped him off to the side. A young man in line took initiative and told the line to keep moving. We stopped and didn't move for about 20 minutes one more time before making into the house, which was fun and well done, imo. The line for The In-Between was about just as long, but at least the timer at the front of the line told us that. I loved that house, it was amazingly fun and the 3D was great. The only problem was the line to get out of the house. I still have no idea why there was one, but we waited for 15 minutes to get out of the house. In a 1 inch puddle of water. One of my friends was dressed in a pretty thin shirt and was so cold that her fingers were going numb (she's a tiny thing). She was acting lethargic and shaking so hard she couldn't even open her purse, so we took her to Flo's and told her to stay put. We decided that since we were soaked and cold and our friend was sitting it out, we would do one more house, and because I'm a huge Poe fan, we went to Nevermore. The line was one big puddle, deep enough to have a current, but the line was shorter than we expected, so it wasn't terrible. I liked the Poe house a lot, and was able to identify every scene. I would love to see an amped-up version of this house in the future, as I feel that it could add even more references and scares. However, there was another line to leave the house. I have never seen a wait to leave a house at a Halloween event, ever. Seriously, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that this is normal. On the way out, I rushed over to see the awesome projection in Acid Assault and bought a shirt, since the event itself seemed like it would have been a blast without the weather. Sorry for the rant, I was just really bummed because I get to go to HHN only once a year, since I don't have the time or money to go more. I couldn't go last year, and this year's attempt fell flat. Of course, not dressing for the weather was our fault, and the weather was one of the main things that put a damper on our trip, but the lines to leave the houses and the lack of security when a fight broke out just were the icing on the cake, so to speak.
  6. I'll just be careful not to eat or drink before I go in, and I'll make sure to close my eyes when I get to the tunnel. I should be fine.
  7. If they do end up making sequels to this house, I think that they should gradually work their way up to modern day.
  8. Either The Cask of Amontillado or The Black Cat. We've already seen what looks like the wife from The Black Cat, but I'm sure that The Cask of Amontillado will make an appearance as well.
  9. At the risk of sounding stupid, I have to ask.... who are the Weeping Angels?
  10. Bleh. I'll just have to cover my eyes then. Shouldn't be too bad if I don't get stuck standing there for a while.
  11. I know that there will probably be a spinning tunnel thing somewhere in the house, but I hope that there isn't. Those tend to make me really sick and confused, but not in the fun way. Like how you would feel if you went rolling down a hill right after a big meal. Sure, I can close my eyes, but when there's a conga line, I can be standing there with my eyes squeezed shut for a while. I'd just much rather something else be there. On a more positive note, I am super pumped for the 3D effects in this house. I'm hoping that they will be unlike anything we've seen.
  12. So on Friday in History class, my teacher mentioned Florence Nightingale, and I immediately thought of this house. Then I wondered... was Florence herself a Nightingale? Maybe the first one? I know she's famous for laying the foundation for nursing as a profession, but with all the wounded she treated, she definitely could have picked off a few without anyone noticing. She was even dubbed "The Lady with the Lamp" because she would make rounds to check on the sick and injured at night. Don't the Nightingale's work at night? HHN fodder if you ask me.
  13. Just re-read Berenice and The Black Cat. I really hope they're featured in the house, great HHN material. The Oval Portrait also seems like something suitable for HHN, but it's only about three pages long, so there's not much to work with.
  14. I wouldn't mind if this SZ was mainly a photo op, as long as it's the only one. I've only been to HHN once or twice, and it's been a while, but I don't think that they have their 'mascot' on a stage performing for photos and stuff right before the park opens. HOS had something like that every year that I went, and it was interesting for a while, but I soon found myself annoyed with the obnoxious people in the crowd and the cheesy performances. I'd rather catch some photos of the mascot in action, rather than acting out some scripted event on stage. I haven't heard of LL having something to do with each house before. That's interesting. As a big Poe fan, I'd love to see how she plays into that house. And if she is involved in every house, I'd like for it to be explained clearly. We shouldn't have to be stretching to link the houses to her.
