Yeah, Saws and Steam didn't have that much. The only houses that I remember having some decent gore are Body Collectors and Scary Tales.. But even then they weren't that bloody. I certainly hope this house can at least get this one thing right, because lets be honest, it's the only thing that it has going for it. We also have Cabin in the Woods which is basically the same thing but with more concept to enjoy. I can see this house being easily overshadowed by CitW.

Well, we had RUN: Hostile Territory in 06, which was a gore house pretty much. I didn't get to experience it so I don't know how gory it was, but it's concept was basically a knock off of the movie Hostel but with Eddie in there.
  3. Couldn't care less about the plot. How about some good jokes? Haven't found this show funny at all these past few years.

Doesn't surprise me that they're only using the remake. And JDW is right, when was the last time we had a house with tons of gore? I think it'll be cool. That is, if they can live up to expectations. I'm also interested to see how this house plays out, since the only locations in the film are the woods, the cabin, and the little shed with the hole. Doesn't seem like a lot to work with in my opinion.

Considering the Blood Rain is probably one of the most epic parts of the film, I'd be pretty sad if they didn't at least try to have that scene as the final. I'm not sure how they could pull it off, though. You can't really shower your guests with fake blood
  6. I'm not really sure why you'd want to see Slenderman... Like, he'd just be standing there. Maybe in the CitW house but honestly he's not exactly haunt character material.
  7. Have we speculated on what the RE house will be like? You guys think it'll be scenes from various games and the movies? Just the movies? Just the games? Just one game or movie?
  8. I'm sorry but last year was a major lackluster for me. The best houses were the original ones, aka Gothic, Dead End, and House of Horrors. Yes, HoH is an "IP" but it is also Universal's like JDW said, and they had full creative freedom with it. I personally just prefer creativity. I'm not saying every house that is original is amazing, but it certainly gives more opportunity to be amazing. When you have an IP, there are things you just simply can't do because of the constraints you get with them. Also it isn't just about the houses. When was the last time we had a kick ass icon and icon house? RoF was a huge let down, Silver Screams was good but I don't know if you can consider that an icon house since I don't really think The Usher was a true icon when compared to others. My whole point of this thread is, when you compare current horror nights to horror nights of the past, like 15 and down, the vibe, the houses, and the scare zones all feel and are very different than what we are getting now. To me I look back and see them saying "come here and the shit scared out of you" and now I see "come here and walk into the sets and scenes of your favorite movies and video games! oh and maybe get a little scared too..."
  9. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that HHN or even Ultra for that matter aren't great events. They have really great quality but it's coming to a point where things are starting to feel a little excessive. I understand IPs bring in crowds, and honestly I do not mind IPs at all. But when the whole event is practically all IP houses, I find that very, very excessive. I know IPs have always been around but it's not the fact that they exist that bugs me it's the fact that they've taken over the event. It's simply isn't the same. Walking into a house that's a movie I already saw isn't as scary as walking into a completely foreign world that A&D has created. I remember when I watched the video on the travel channel (or discovery?) that was of Islands of Fear. To me, that's what HHN is about. A sick icon, some sick houses, and some sick scare zones with some shows in there. I use to literally dream of being involved with the creation of HHN as a kid. That dream is long gone. I mean, it's practically laid out for them almost besides the actual design of the houses. But the ideas are all there already to pick at. And now they're also throwing video games into the mix... They could have at least picked a good horror game that hasn't failed as of recently... And I agree that you're not getting what you pay for at HHN anymore. Other events really do have more, and even if they do get repeated houses, who cares? We just get a bunch of movies every year. Heck, look at this year, if we do indeed get CITW and ED, they're practically the same excluding the endings. Not to mention TWD and the prison house.
  10. So today was the day that Ultra Music Festival Miami was "selling" early bird tickets. I got on the computer ready as hell to buy one, and at 1 pm I hit the ticket button and guess what? Site crashed. Very few people seemed to have gotten tickets. So I waited. They said that more early bird tickets would go on sale at 4:30. I wait again. The time comes and I get into where I can purchase a ticket and guess what? It crashes. And then guess what? A minute passes by and the early bird tickets are sold out and advance tickets are now 270 dollars (not including the service and shipping fee). At that moment I say I'm not going anymore because I cant afford it, but I continue to watch what happens. Almost five minutes passes and, surprise, advanced tickets are now sold out and you can only buy general admission, which are now 400 dollars (not including service and shipping fees, with them it's more like 500 dollars!) which is a hundred dollars more than last years general admission tickets were... Talk about some shady stuff going on here, certainly sounds like bait advertising to me, but that's not what this is about. Now, I know what you must be thinking... Who the hell cares about Ultra Music Festival? What does this have to do with HHN? Well, lets look at HHN. Ticket prices practically go up every year, and the event gets more crowded, putting a lot of people in the spot of having to buy express passes... And look at what we've got these past years? A shit ton of IP houses and very little originality. Lets look back at HHN's past. Everything prior to Sweet 16 was, in my opinion, a million times better than what we've gotten in terms of original content. The only year that I think comes semi close to those terms is Reflections of Fear... What happened to being original? Halloween Horror Nights was cool because it was original, because it was big and grand, and created new monsters and nightmares to encounter. Looking at the rumored house lineup this year, it literally breaks my heart. I almost think it's a joke because it's so sad. It's no longer about the fans, because lets face it we're the only ones who care about what the houses and themes are. It's no longer about what's awesome and original... It's about the money and how much tickets they sell. How come when something gets popular, like HHN or Ultra for example, it has to go to shit and be about the money? How come it can't be popular and still stay true to what made it so great in the first place? Popularity and greed has pretty much ruined my favorite events. I use to be very active on these HHN forums, especially way back when the Vault was still around. Now I honestly couldn't care less, because I know the theme and houses aren't worth speculating and working myself up over anymore because I'll just be let down. I also use to go two nights, or even three in previous years. Now I only go once, because it's not worth seeing more than once anymore in my opinion. I'm not saying I don't have fun at HHN, because I do, and the same goes for Ultra (I went this year and had a blast). But common... What happened to these type of things being about the experience? They pretty much seem to not care what experience you have, as long as you spend your money on their tickets and merchandise. They know that the Walking Dead and Resident Evil will bring people in, so who cares about originality? Sorry but I just had to share my thoughts. I can't be the only one here who's thought about this.
  11. I've personally been somewhat disappointed with the direction HHN has gone.. I feel like the last year we had a a strong icon was The Director or maybe Terra Queen? After that it's been downhill in my opinion. I enjoy the event but it's simply not what it used to be for me. What happened to the originality? The Caretaker, Director, Terra Queen, Jack... Great icons that people loved to see and they weren't already popular or known. I feel like they've been playing it safe these past few years. I don't mind IPs but I want some classic HHN back. I want an icon that can be a little more than the face of the event with a kick ass sound stage house, and I want sets back on the streets, I want midnight syndicate playing at the gates, I want more originality. Islands of Fear is the perfect example of what I want HHN to go back to. Or HHN X, or even Tales of Terror. I'd rather have an attempt at originality than something unoriginal and it still sucking. I also think it's time to give the studios a break. I think going back to Islands or maybe splitting it between the too is something they should start considering if they haven't already. But, overall, I think a strong character for an Icon is where they should start. Strong Icon + Strong Icon House would be great. I think we need an icon with a personality, because Jack, The Caretaker, The Directer, etc. All had different personalities. Bloody Mary didn't have anything when it came to what the general public saw. Without a personality you're just a face and that's what we've gotten these past few years. Also, bring in the butcher. I want some more gore.
  12. I'd love to see the videos! He really was awesome. I wish I was able to find him towards the end of the night
  13. Do you guys think we'll see houses of other music artists in the future? The whole time I was walking through Alice Cooper I was thinking Rob Zombie or Marilyn Manson would have been way cooler and a little more well known to the majority of people.
  14. I personally loved the streets this year. I doubted them at first but once I got there and experienced them I loved it. With traditional scarezones you get parts of the park that are ALWAYS empty because there's just not much room for a scarezone. The hordes made it much better and enjoyable. I loved just walking around the park and seeing all the actors. I think maybe one or two traditional scare zones would be nice mixed with the hordes.
  15. I was SO surprised we didn't see any mannequin monsters! I think there's even a part where there were mannequin parts on like shelves or something? Where were the monsters? They made references to the games but didn't really have actual characters that were specifically from the games...
  16. Anyone have a lot of pictures of the Vampire and Warrior legions? I think out of all of them I saw the warriors the least.
  17. I waited like 20 minutes for cooper last night. I was not happy. They weren't letting enough of the express pass holders in at a time from I understand. There was literally a line of people starting just outside the barney entrance.
  18. Slicer 88 got me good at the Alice Cooper and Penn exit. Thank you for the best and first scare of the night. Everyone in Gothic were also on point last night. Both times I went through there were scares left and right. I felt bad for one of you because the second time I went through it looked like someone had hit one of you, since I saw an actor talking to security outside and they had pulled someone aside. My FAVORITE actor of the night though has to go to one of the vampires. Not sure what his name is or anything, but he had tight black jeans that were ripped on with a leather jacket and I think blonde-ish hair. Very in character and looked like he was having a ton of fun. I loved watching him because he was so entertaining. The fierce walk he had was brilliant and the way he spun after he got a scare was just so fantastic.
  19. Again, just didn't like it. The sets were meh and the scares were also meh for me. Went through twice and I'm pretty sure I got both A and B. I think the best part is the ceiling scare. But I don't know.. not a fan of his music and it felt pretty random to me, even though I know there's supposed to be a story line. Seemed like a bit of a stretch honestly. I liked the nurses with the hanging bodies. But other than that this house didn't do much for me.
  20. SO MUCH FUN! Went twice and I enjoyed myself both times. The light room is my favorite. Super disorienting. Wasn't sure how this one was gonna be but I really enjoyed it, and there are some pretty decent scares in here as well. I really liked the interactivity as well. Can someone tell me all the things you can push and pull? I got the hotel scene, the slot machines and the buttons.
  21. I'm just gonna flat out say I pretty much didn't care for any of the "big three" houses. Silent Hill was a let down, Alice Cooper just didn't do much for me at all and then this house was just bleh. Thank god I had express passes because I would have been really bummed if I had waited the long wait for this house. It just isn't worth it. I felt zero intensity from most of the actors. The best scene was the barn and the actors in there just seemed to be standing around. Maybe they were resetting? I don't know. The sets were great and they really reminded me of the show, but other than that this house didn't accomplish that much. Zombiegeddon did the zombie thing better. Way better.
  22. Not as effective as DE in my opinion, but it certainly works really well. I got some great scares in this one and I love some of the sets. I also really enjoyed the final.
  23. I don't understand why they didn't do certain things in this house. The siren goes off one time at the beginning. One. Time. Come on, really? They should have it on repeat at the beginning. The sets were great but then you had actors and actresses in plain view. I felt so bad for them, you could see them a mile away. Another thing I have to complain about is the use of the mannequins... There were nurses, the rabbit and the little girl. There should have been more nurses in that one room. I don't care if that was the only scene we got to see them. That room should have been jam packed with nurses. I don't understand why the rabbit wasn't an actor, either. This house was just full of missed opportunities and I honestly thought it was hard to mess up. I didn't go back for a second visit but I really didn't care to do it again. I also felt like they didn't use enough different characters from the games. I will say that the sets were great. I did catch pyramid head perfectly in both rooms. Pretty scary if you get it just right. But that's not enough for me. Surprised they didn't at least fix the siren by now.
  24. Bravo! Keep up the great work. it was my first really good scare of the night.
  25. A bit of an improvement. Without going into detail, I actually laughed a few times. Something that hasn't happened at this show since 06. Could have done without the political portion.
