It’s 2016, It’s the middle of September, it’s time for Halloween Horror Nights.
The 26th year brings us a new ICON in Chance, the long time sidekick of Jack the Clown and the Harley Quinn of Horror. We get some returning IP’s in AMC’s The Walking Dead, Halloween and Texas Chain Saw Massacre along with some new ones in FX’s American Horror Story, The Exorcist and Krampus. The lineup rounds out with original content, Ghost Town: The Curse of Lightning Gulch, Tomb of the Ancients and Lunatic’s Playground 3D.
The street program features five all new original Scarezones. A Chance In Hell, Dead Man’s Wharf, Lair of the Banshee, Survive or Die Apocalypse and Vamp ’55.
We get two shows with the 25th year of Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure and a Hollywood Stage show Academy of Villains: House of Fear.
Universal invites select media outlets on opening night to a special media event that takes us on a tour of all 9 houses and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure. We also get the opportunity to film in two houses that we choose and post highlights for everyone to enjoy.
Upon arriving and checking-in we are escorted to soundstage 33 where the marquee tell us “We Won’t Stand A Chance” and the Halloween Horror Nights 26 logo with the #HHN26 hashtag to post on our social media accounts. This is a new location for the event as in years past we were put inside the Pantages Theater (Horror Make-Up), which seemed to out grow this event.
Upon entering the soundstage we are greeted with a number of tables, plenty of food and desert and of course a couple bars.
After about an hour of eating, drinking and talking with like minds and just overall fans of Halloween Horror Nights we get an announcement that we will be entering a seating area on the other half of the soundstage that is closed off by a red curtain for a Q&A session with the Creative Team and Greg Nicotero, co-executive producer, special make-up effects supervisor, and occasional director of AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Once we are seated, the lights go out and we get some strobe lights … CHANCE has arrived!
Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Alanna Masterson (Tara), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel), Ross Marquand (Aaron) and Jordan Woods-Robinson (Eric) talk about the walk through they just did of The Walking Dead house.
The evening continued with our R.I.P. Tour where we were allowed to film two houses of our choosing to post highlights on our blogs, and social media sites. We chose to go with the Horror Classics, Halloween: Hell Comes to Haddonfield and Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Overall the media event was great this year and the move to soundstage 33 was due. We continued the weekend Saturday and Sunday and without going into spoilers I will list my House and Scarezone rankings for opening weekend.
