here's my speculation list
strangers things 2 [it's a given]
happy death day 2u
pet sematary [ let me explain, it's not fox or wb, stephen king let 2 it houses happen already, so if we can't get it, this is our second option]
killer klowns from outer space
haunting of hill house
the thing
zombieland [ second movie is coming out this year, and we kinda did something similar with zombigeddon, so i won't be that surprised if we have a house themed to the first movie]

wishful thinking
crypt tv maze
overlord [ trailer is very promising, has tons of nightingales vibes, but have to wait until the movie comes out]
donnie darko [ after seeing this awesome haunt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZqkD1OttAY i think it could happen, it's a cult classic and it can get some indie fans in]

Stranger Things 2 and Killer Klowns feel like givens to me. Man I'm hoping ST2 can pull off the Mind Flayer, but I have no idea how. Big projection screen? Mirrors? Halloween 2018 or 5 seem logical too (5 if 2018 is saved for year 30). My discussions with a ticket-taker seemd to indicate that Aiello wanted to dive into more 80s properties in 2019. Also that Universal was working to get Freddy back.

Pet Sematary would definitely make sense. But I would also be down for a King montage house, if he were to allow it. Pet Sem, Cujo, Salem's Lot, the prom from Carrie, and the beach from Duma Key (special for Orlando, given the book's setting).

For the last potential IP: A NoES house if they get Freddy back (I'd be elated), Re-Animator (or even Evil Dead again), Return of the Living Dead, Aliens (OG Alien will be turning 40, iirc), Demons (longshot, but it was 80s and it would make for a pretty easy house), The Fly, or Hellraiser. I just watched it, and it would never happen, but Motel Hell as a house would be ridiculously fun, lol.

I would absolutely love a Channel Zero house in the spirit of AHS (or for individual seasons). It's a Syfy production, so the chance is always there. I just don't think it's ever going to be popular enough to be selected. :(

Non-IPs I'd like to see return:

Silver Screams. It's been 10 years since The Usher's year, would be happy to see him back and he could take some of the above concepts that couldn't be fleshed into full houses and make them work.

More HR Bloodengutz

Something expanding upon the church in Twisted Tradition

More Nightingales

More S.S. Frightanic

More Scarecrows

More Body Collectors (although I expect them to be reserved for year 30 as well)

Can we please stop with the Stephen King spec? King isn't going to sign off on any haunts. We got the Shining and It because Uni and WB used the movie property and not anything that was King's to sign away. Also I seem to recall Uni's PR got in some trouble for using King's name early on in some advertising.

Mentioned in my original post.  WB got around the fact that King doesn't license his work out to haunts by using the movie, which he doesn't have the rights to, having signed then away, and HHN got away by using Kubrick's Shining and not King's. Anything King holds any rights to is not house fodder. Full stop.

Speculation:

  • Stranger Things Season 2: I would be shocked if it wasn't done next year. Hoping that if we get mega maze, that this is it. Have the first 1/3 best of season one and the back 2/3 season 2. Season 2 has much less to work off than season one in my opinion. I'm excited to see how they would do the levitation scene.
  • Happy Death Day 2U: Don't want it, but we're bound to get it. A popular series, getting an undeserved sequel. Will be a cheap house to make that can go in any location.
  • Killer Klownz or Chucky: One or the other, maybe both. Extremely popular zones from the past year going on the theme of using scarezones has houses. The 2009 Chucky house is one of my favorites of all time and would love another adaptation. Killer Klownz would be good and fairly inexpensive. Costumes are already made, another house that can go anywhere.
  • Other Blumhouse properties: Sinister deserves its own house, one of the very few modern horror films and even fewer Blumhouse films that are actually scary. The one room and hallway in Blumhouse 1 was a joke. Truth or Dare and Unfriended weren't terrible options for Hollywood just poorly executed. I wouldn't be upset if we saw one or both, but wouldn't be able to carry a full house individually. Ideal Blumhouse of Horrors lineup would be Hush/Belko Experiment/ Get Out. I'm not counting on Halloween 40 being at the event next year. Living preview for 5 Nights at Freddys may be in the cards for us as well
  • Classic: I do expect something classic next year. Either classic monsters or another title labeled as classic. Possibly Alien since its turning 40.
  • Other Universal Properties: Really hoping for the Strangers over anything. Another property deserving a full house that hasn't gotten it yet.
  • Sequels: Leave it to Cleaver and Silver Screams turn 10 next year, two fan favorites. I would also love a sequel to Interstellar Terror.
  • AHS: Not next year. Maybe 30?
  • Slaughter Sinema: I'm thinking we'll see a full on house based on a title used from last year. Amazon Cannibals, Swamp Yeti, and Sorority Sacrifice seem like the most doable.
  • Fractured Tales: These have been crowd pleasers: Beauty and the Beast or Tarzan/George of the Jungle would be excellent.

Wishlist:

  • Hostel: Easily the best torture porn movie. Would be easier to execute than Saw and more scary. Hollywood got it, why can't we?
  • House of Wax: Kind of campy but also could be made pretty scary. One of the first horror movies I saw.
  • Something M. Night Shyamalan: Preferably The Village.
  • April Fools Day: Cult Classic, has some really cool scenes that I'd like to see done.
  • Jeepers Creepers: This would be so much fun. Just don't include the third one.
  • Night of the Living Dead: Has to be done in black and white right?
  • Grindhouse: Gore for the sake of gore. Such a fun movie, very slaughter sinema-esque. Tarentino would never allow it though.
  • Original Evil Dead or Army of Darkness: Could always use more Ash
  • It/ Conjuring: Unlikely with what Warner Brothers is trying to do. But it would bring the people in and make me super happy.
  • Until Dawn: One of the best horror video games in recent memory. I can not hype it up enough. Some of these scenes were made for HHN.

i wouldn't mind blumhouse of horrors 3, but with lesser known movies [upgrade, belko experiment, and creep]. i can go into further detail if you guys are confused how these can translate into 4-6 rooms in a house.

Wishful thinking but I would love to see Return of the Living Dead make an appearance in some shape or form at the event. It's got lots of potential for both a house or zone. Lots of memorable characters and moments.

Would also love to see them tackle The Thing on a bigger scale. They've been doing good by these classic movies and I would love to see the current team's take on this one.

Oh, I'm well aware. Hence my very pointed, "IF HE WERE TO ALLOW IT". ;)

I mean we could all just take this thread super seriously & follow the same road of realistic visions for next year, and admit it will be Stranger Things 2, plus 5 Blumhouse mazes, with every scarezone being a photo-op for your family with a Demodog, a Happy Death Day babyman, and a box of Eggo waffles. Would that appease the trivia gods?

Honestly, while Killer Klowns WAS super popular, I really can’t see it translating well into a house. As a scareactor on Facebook pointed out, “those are some big boo holes.” I think it worked as a street with room to have those massive costumes, but a house would mean either scaling down the klowns’ size in a really weird way (especially now that we’re familiar with them from the zone), having boo holes too noticeable to be surprised by/too difficult for the actors to navigate with their limited speed, or somehow reinventing the concept of the scare to make this work.

Chucky, however, most definitely! It won street of the year, so it’s almost guaranteed to be considered enough of a relevant success to bring back.

^That was my first thought as well. I think it's do-able, but most of the "scares" would have to come from things that aren't the Klown actors themselves. Surprise popcorn gun attacks, popout balloon animals, actors playing dissolving cotton candy victims could be particularly effective. And the last 2 nights I visited the Scare Zone, an actress was added who had a puppet eating her arm. That could work. Mooney after he gets killed and turned into a dummy would be amazing too. Jojo, the "final boss" Klown from the movie, would absolutely have to be an animatronic or harness puppet.

It would require a lot of thinking outside of the box. But Poltergeist this year definitely proves that the creative team is capable of doing that.

And yes, I would absolutely prefer another Chucky house. Curse and Cult were triumphant returns to form for the franchise. I would be too awestruck by a Fiona Douriff lookalike to pay attention to anything else in the maze though <3

by using the movie

Which kinda opens the door for what people are clamoring for.   I agree with you full 100%.  And if you add to this that WB is now looking like they are getting completely into the game, why would they continue to license stuff out to Universal for competition?  (Excepting the fact that they could tell them it is ok in USO ONLY) https://www.wbstudiotour.com/horror-made-here  but look at the haunts they had.  IT was included, because, like you said, based on the Movie.

Add to this the tweet from Aiello last night:
The team is already well into #HHN29!! IP’s are being considered, original content is forming! What I can say is this year’s energy and feel will continue. We will always learn from our challenges creatively and build on the success of what worked!

That does not excite me in the least.  This year's energy and feel.....

"This year's energy and feel will continue"

Oh no.

Great.  So.....

ST2 (this is a stone cold lock).  Jerks are already clamoring for this to be a full on attraction at the park.  Yikes.  ("We are not making HHN family friendly" = We made more money this year than ever before.  We are making this more family friendly than HHN28)
I really, desperately, almost comically hope that Killer Klowns was a one and done.  Please, no more.  It was great.  Let it go.   But, they won't and it will be a 1 time walk through and done.  Just like the scare zone.  You know, the one where there was literally a 1 year old toddler getting pictures with the clowns.
Another lame AoV show.  On a stage.  With a seated and disengaged audience.  Great.
Trick R Treat 3?  Will it be a scarezone or will it suck up another great house location and waste more space?
The Nun
Halloween 2018

Please, I've already booked my vacation for next October (got a freaking awesome on site rate by booking so early)  please get some good OC to balance the crap that is NSSHHN.

I'll hold my anti stay-and-sceam rant until the end of next summer.

You get around this by using the Carnival Graveyard concept, making more open spaces. There were few enough boohiles that you could fill those with say the ice cream guys, the girl with the puppet, and maybe the short clown once.

While this is valid and definitely doable, how many times can you use non-klowns for scares in a Killer Klowns house before it loses the point? Again, though, even with the big spaces, the lack of mobility in the Klowns was very very noticeable for almost all of them (excluding Shorty). Slow movements kind of added to the creep factor of the zone, but would that work in the constantly-moving nature of a house? Would their sound triggers make sense, or would they just be loud noises for the sake of it?

+1 for no Killer Klownz house. The scarezone was great, but I also believe that was because of the scareactors ability to improvise. Other than that, I'm just hoping for scarier houses, with less IP's (aren't we all). Naturally we'll get ST2, something Blumhouse (Halloween, HDD2U, god forbid another Purge), and probably Chucky. What else is coming out? 3 From Hell, Escape Room (that premise has the potential to make a good house, whether it's an IP or original), Zombieland 2...

Rabid is getting remade, iirc. Would probably never happen, but a Cronenberg house would make me wicked nostalgic.

The James Wan-produced La Llorona was getting ridiculous trailer time in theaters before I watched both Hell Fest and Suspiria last week. Didn't look like a great film, and it's been done as an original at HHN before, but it's Wan so I'm sure people will go see it. Same with that awful-looking Exorcism movie that looks like Autopsy of Jane Doe without all the interesting parts.

Death House sounds like it was a flop, so unfortunately that's not going to pick up enough steam/popularity.

And I guess it's never too early to pre-empt all the kids clamoring for a Five Nights At Freddy's house, especially with a movie supposedly in the works for this year. Ugh. :/

I remember hearing about a Maniac Cop remake, but I think that's stuck in production limbo, sadly...

Five nights at Freddie’s would make an excellent house though, ignoring the demographics it would bring in, if you just take the concept by itself, a house in an abandoned Chuck E. Cheese with disturbing imagery, dead children, and lots of use of puppets would be great

Critical analysis?  (the title of this thread is speculation, head over to the review thread for analysis) that being said, here is my reason why to not do KK in HHN29.

The scare zone was nothing more than a Selfie/Instagram  zone.  I am not exaggerating about seeing a family bring their 1 year old to the event to get pictures with clowns.

There is absolutely nothing scary about it.  The movie was never intended to be scary and there would be no scares at all in a tent.   Just put a tent around the scarezone and that's your tent maze.  Woo.

There is nothing horror, at all, around it.  At least Carnival Graveyard had enough OC to keep your eyes moving around.  There's just no real further content to expand into a tent.    The point of HHN is to immerse you into the IP, not just to show you the IP as you walk through.  Poltergeist, Halloween....the mazes take you through the movie.  In a KK tent, You'll just be watching the movie in the maze.  And that music....at the volume a house runs....oh my no, please no.

Stranger Things 2
Killer Klowns house.

That's two wasted lines.  It is not what I go to HHN for and it does nothing to earn the amount of money I spend on tickets. This is how you transform HHN into NSSHHN
