DTH316
10) 2013 - Round 1. The worst trip I ever had. We did everything right too, but the company just wasn't great. It was my girlfriend & I and two high school girls (a relative & her friend). The two girls complained the entire time that it wasn't scary, that Knotts was better (this was their first time), would constantly ask when we were leaving, and then we eventually left early once we were done with everything (like at 1:00 AM). On top of that, alot of the mazes just weren't up to par yet (Evil Dead, El Cucuy) while BS13 just flat out sucked (and still did my second time but I could forgive it that time). Oh, and it was the second worst Bill & Ted we ever had; infamous for shutting it down permanently for the rest of the year and not having it at all this year. There were glimpses of fun, like going through the backlot for the first time, but this trip made me second guess my love for Horror Nights. 9) 2012 - Round 1. This trip is easily forgotten in comparison to the trip that came later that year. I usually go with a big group of friends but this time it was just my GF and I (no offense to her or anything, but the more people, the more fun) and the lines were unbearably long. Not to mention, the mazes weren't that great on their first run throughs. This is a major reason why I'm no longer going to Opening Nights... the mazes are often LAME and things feel disjointed. I'm hoping SECOND NIGHT will be a better option this year. Silent Hill was dead, TCM had many missed scares, and ACGTH was just bad. The best moments of the night came from The Walking Dead & La Llorona, which bookended the night in my gameplan, so there was a lot of dead space in between. 8) 2007. This literally was just me by myself after a break up; however it was exciting to do a solo venture to a place I had never been before. The mazes were top notch, Bill & Ted was a major surprise, and this was my first HHN in general. Even though I was by myself, so many great things happened, as if it was destiny for me to love the event more. I got there late, like at 10 with the park closing in 2 hours. I had time for only one maze after the Terror Tram, and I picked TCM and got the biggest scares of my life still to this day. Then after, the park remained open an extra hour so I got to experience the other 2 mazes, and then I was treated with what felt like an inspirational Bill & Ted at the time. This is the one that started everything and I would do it again in a heartbeat. 7) 2008. Going back with a friend was great redemption, especially with a friend who loved these horror icons as much as I did. The mazes were just as great, Bill & Ted was even better, and it was good just to have company with me. I remember wishing the event would never end, but I had this weird feeling it'd only last for those 2 years with the Big 3 and that'd be it. Thankfully, I was very wrong. Also, this was Terror Tram's best incarnation. This is the one that started the chainsaw brigade, the first time going into the hills, the sheets maze, and the best video package/story that had a great ending. I got so many great scares that night. 6) 2011 - Round 2. This was my first time going for a second time and realizing that things improve greatly throughout the run. It was fun to see all the differences. I was in a group of all girls until I ran into Freak at some point of the night. I remember getting one of my favorite scares this night in La Llorona, but realizing it's hard to capture lightning in a bottle on my second run through that night and the maze felt more dead. It was a fun trip, just didn't have many priceless memories. 5) 2011 - Round 1. This was a very fun trip, but I felt like the event itself wasn't up to par. Only mazes I was digging that night was The Thing and La Llorona. Plus I was majorly disappointed by the Terror Tram. However, my friends and I had the best of times! The long lines were fun because we'd attack each other as we were going through the switchbacks. We interacted with the Hostel girls and tried to get pictures of us getting scared. Great night and would probably be my favorite, but the event itself brings it down a few notches. 4) 2010. Went on a semi-double date this year and we met up with some friends later on in the night. My buddy had always wanted to go to HHN and he took this girl he liked but she was in a relationship and was obviously un-interested. It was still fun nonetheless. I remember the event itself was rocking very hard with everyone on their game. The good times were rolling once our other group of friends met up with us. They then split off while 2 of their group stayed with our group. We then met up again at the end of the night with everyone taking pictures in City Walk. This was the year that semi-started the tradition of the group of people I would go with at least once starting in 2011. 3) 2012 - Round 2. I wish I remembered more of what happened but nobody took pictures! I remember one of my well-poised friends fell in Silent Hill when Pyramid Head attacked. I remember my scareactor friend walked us through The Walking Dead and they harassed him in each room, scaring one of my friends who did not know he worked there, so she was legitimately terrified she would get touched. I remember this was easily the BEST Bill & Ted we've ever had. I remember all of us practically filled Parisian Square when we were eating dinner. Other than that, I just remember that it was a lot of fun. 2) 2009. After going by myself in 07 and going with 1 friend in 08, things were about to get multiplied big time. My group on this night was at least 15 people, and we got separated into three smaller groups on multiple occasions. It was madness trying to keep people together. We'd be heading down the starway at one point, only to realize 4 people walked off to do The Simpsons. It was madness, but this trip taught me alot about how to keep the group together and why it's important to make sure everyone is on the same page. There are so many priceless memories that I'll remember for all time: our friend's BF who ditched her and ran into the stores the moment the chainsaws started revving at the entrance, when he cried from seeing the T-Rex on Jurassic Park, taking pictures in the Shaun of the Dead scarezone, sharing our food in Mel's Diner, it being my GF's first time at HHN and her actually being scared, everyone staying in one group so we could do Terror Tram, watching my friend skip and hop away after a Miner popped out of an outhouse (I think that's what it was), and ofcourse, Halloween was just an amazing maze in general. One of the best events and one of my favorite memories. 1) 2013 - Round 2. I didn't realize it at the time until I thought about it after, but this was hands down the absolute best trip I had ever taken to HHN. I was peeved about Bill & Ted being gone, but it was still such a delightful journey. It started with a very funny car ride as our friends who followed us to LA drove horribly slow, so we had to slow down so they would catch up. Our two friends in the back made fun of them the whole way and one of my friends swear they saw one of the guys from LMFAO in a dog park near the Forest Lawn exit. We finally got there, a bit late, but the park opened early, so we raced down and met up with our friend who got there before us (the same thing happened the year before - bugged him to get there early enough for Early Access, and we're the ones who got there late -- I hope that doesn't happen again this year haha). Our new friends who hadn't gone before loved it, and our old friends were having a grand ol' time like always. We then met up with another group of friends who got there later. Some clowns were harassing me in the scarezone which I have filmed, we had a friend terrified of Chucky as he raced by on their scooter, and all the mazes were rocking that night (except for BS13... ugh). No pictures were taken this night either, but nearly every moment was memorable for me!
