just to let everyone know. I received information that this year, there will be a zero tolerance policy of any foul language. This means that any callback that uses any profanity will lead to expulsion from the theatre. Looks like they're going to crack down on all callbacks along with last year's callbacks involving rape and molestation, and they're going all out to ensure that there's strong censorship enforcement.

There was an interview where the guy asked her directly about the call-backs and people being reprimanded for obscenities to find out if they were going to communicate with security more so that they wouldn't wrongly kick people out just doing what they are supposed to.

Her response was slightly hostile and she appeared visually agitated and defensive about it, insisting that Rocky Horror at a midnight showing and at a "PG-13" amusement park are completely different and that they basically will continue address obscenities, although she did say they did increase communication so that security has very clear instructions over what is ok and what is not.

I just think it's kinda silly, because it's the whole spirit of Rocky Horror and I hear way worse stuff from people near me just sitting in queue lines. I always hate when they use the term "PG-13" at a halloween event.

Anyways, moving on...

She did mention that there was new costuming and that the video shown on the screens was upgraded...I'm wondering what will be different about them. Maybe they'll have subtitles so people know exactly what the "Universal Approved" call-backs are? :-P

Well, that's one less show I have to bother with this year. We have a first timer attending with us this year so I had sort of resigned myself to the fact that I would be seeing RHPS again (even though I really did not want to) but I know he would not be happy with how this is being handled.

It looks like it's time to get a new tribute show...

Off the top of my head: Little Shop of Horrors, Repo the Genetic Opera, The Devil's Carnival, Toxic Avenger: The Musical, or Evil Dead: The Musical (the last two are real, look them up). DO IT, UNIVERSAL, DO IT NOW!

the vulgarity of the callbacks often depend on where you get them from. There are some however which have existed since the film's first screenings. one of which involves the audience in the front row shouting "F*** the back row!" when the theme mentions "in the back row".

no one really knows what repo is, and half the people that saw it hated it. so it would probably fail pretty badly (just my guess)

I personally kind of hate some of the callbacks, not because they are obscene or anything but because I kind of feel annoyed of the same things being yelled out after so may years. the whole "a-hole/slut" gets on my nerves and it's kind of lame now. the show will always be great but some of the callbacks are kind of dumb now. I like when theaters change them up and create their own

I wish Universal came up with their own pg 13 approved callbacks and put subtitles on their screens lol

They should do "Evil Dead: The Musical: Abridged - A Tribute Show."

And actually call it that. It would fit the tone perfectly. As long as it has "Cabin In The Woods," "Look Who's Evil Now," "What the [bleep] Was That," (with gratuitous bleeping), "I Am Not A Killer" and "(Do the) Necronomicon," it would be absolutely perfect as a fun side show.

this would be great lol, I don't really understand why they have such a hard time coming up with something original, fun and horror related. It makes no sense.

Well we could show them how stupid they are by giving "censored" callbacks.

For example when Brad is mentioned shout out in a idiotic upper class twit voice: "A most foolish fellow!"

Or when Janet is mention: "A morally loose woman!"

But then they would not likely even get the point. Perhaps just sitting in silence or even skipping the show altogether would be best.

BUT the most important thing IF this does bother or concern you at all - is to note it or anything else that upsets you about HHN in the guest surveys! They do pay attention to those, so write them up!

Look, I'm not at all pro-censorship, and I personally have a viciously nasty mouth, but I am THRILLED to

attend a Rocky show without having to listen to callbacks I have long found tedious, unfunny, and vulgar.

Maybe my understanding is skewed, but I've always thought of the show as a tribute to the film itself, and

not a mini-version of the whole RHPS experience (which I understand you can get at Citywalk, if you're so

inclined). For those who think the movie is nothing without the fan participation... I just don't agree,

and I didn't feel that way even back in my RHPS-obsessed youth. But if it's going to cause so much rancor,

then I would love to see them try a different horror-based musical show and end Rocky after this year. More

shows folks want to see=marginally less waiting in house lines for me.

Without the callbacks it is watching people act out a movie that is playing on the screen behind them.

I went to see Rocky for many years in my youth, should have done better things on my Friday and Saturday nights, and I will say this with utter honesty. The movie sucks. I mean it really really really sucks. Bad acting, bad effects (even for 1975), bad direction... Just sucks. Why would you want to sit through what has become one of the ultimate audience participation films without participating?

I just hope that Universal will now censor in the line queues. I've heard vulgarity that has made me turn and wonder if these kids have parents. Yeah, lil bastards no older than 13/15 just popping off with f-bombs and sexual innuendo that I don't say in public. Then the drunks... well, that is a completely different story. Also off topic.. Sorry bout that.

Was already planning on giving them a piece of my mind!

Gosh, and I spent all those weekends in my youth attending a movie I actually LIKED and DIDN'T think of as

a complete suckfest. Call me crazy. It certainly supports my theory that the mean-spirited nature of much

of the audience participation arises from a sense of superiority to the film, which, as I've stated, I

don't share. Though no masterpiece of filmmaking, the broad performances and cheap campiness are entirely deliberate and meant to poke affectionate fun at the horror & scifi films of the past decades. I guess that's why I stopped attending RHPS screenings a long time ago; I used to think we were all fans of the film, but that's clearly not the case. Lesson learned.

they wont even check for smoking or people cutting in line... lol

the movie might suck but the show and the actors are great. I mean do the callbacks really change what is on the stage that much? it is still a great show even if no one yells.

but like everyone has said, Universal needs to step it up and bring a horror show. this is becoming ridiculous (I wish everyone just ask them to bring the evil dead show here on those surveys or something )

If it makes you feel better, we have NO shows over here. You have both this and Bill and Ted!

Seriously.

I understand callback are great and hilarious, I say them all the time. But you've also got some amazing talent working their asses off on stage for you guys. If the only thing that makes the show enjoyable is the callbacks, then you should really re-think your priorities when it comes to planning your night at the event.

It's not so much that I'm upset about the callbacks but with a "zero tolerance" policy enacted and how long we've had the same show, I think it's just time to move on and replace the show with something fresh and new. I mean, they don't seem to have a " zero tolerance" stance on drunken behavior or crude and obscene behavior outside of the show and the people that are gonna be offended by a few swear words are going to leave the second "Sweet Transvestite" comes on anyways. I just think the whole "This is a PG-13 event" thing is a load of crap. And I bet anything that those video upgrades have something to do with the callbacks...and that would be just taking things too far to suck the fun out of audience participation... which by the way THEY specifically say is part of the show.

Having seen this year's show already, the upgraded videos have nothing to do with callbacks. Also, dont automatically assume anything. I have friends that aren't fans of swearing, but love the hell out of Rocky Horror.

The event caters to a wide audience not just diehards. If you want the really crazy and shocking callbacks plus a crazier Rocky Horror experience, go watch the Rich Weirdos in Citywalk.
