And all those that swore there would be no movie houses, because Universal told us so, maybe take away that there are no certainties when it comes to this event. Same is true of the whole "new era" idea. This house, while I'm very excited about and looking forward to, is rehashed and in no way "new".

I may be one of the few who enjoyed the first Thing house but I do hope they can improve on it.

I wished they didn't have it. The original was not great. Talk about a disappointment into hoping they would have truly new material.

<_<

While I would think a bowling alley would be too "open," the code names could work. Star as well. Gutter is supposedly the first scare though...

Floating Head - Talking Head - Omniscient Narration? It's a long shot, but maybe a PA attendant or an announcer?

So the Thing house is officially...not as excited as I thought I'd be but not distraght either. It should be fun at the very least. And it's a prequel house, which means it won't be exactly like 07. I'm just...idk...not thrilled

just a thought since there is a supposed "rune" room in this house, isn't it possible that maybe this house will be something related to divination, witchcraft, & psychic phenomena?

runes are used as a form of fortune telling & divination.
in the tarot deck there is a card called The Star.
as for shoes man, i instantly thought of the card The Hanged Man

not sure how this would really be scary, i know a lot of people who that kind of stuff makes them poop their panties, though i know it wouldn't really be scary to most... but its really just a thought.... *burrows back into her hole to read more specs*

With the new info... Let's recap what we know and don't know.

Spec Recap

What we know for sure–

The entrance for the Sprung 2 house (Havoc) is where the exit normally is, meaning we have different crowd flow coming out of that house than in the past.

The façade for Jaws is built further out than normal (and is getting a true façade).

Sprung 1’s Room #8 is known in the permits as the “Rune Room.”

Three of the houses have some sort of overhang requiring sprinklers to be installed (possible a ceiling or “Up-Scares”).

None of the previous Icons are returning.

* There are at least 8 houses and 6 Scarezones (they’re not cutting back). Houses are in the same locations as last year. Scarezones are in Hollywood, New York, Plaza of the Stars, Shrek, Central Park and IFB.

* Something, similar to a scarezone, is happening in “Lucy.”

A similar font to the website can be seen in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

Auditions include asking for individuals who can speak Spanish.

* IFB seems to be a stilt-heavy zone.

Rusty pipes, gears, and water tanks have been seen in the Jaws queue

Easter eggs and wood carvings (with antlers) have been seen in disaster. Along with various home furnishings.

The Thing will be a house this year.

RIP, VIP and Unmasking the Horror tours will return this year.

The commercial was shot in June.

"Horizon Extraction Facility" has been seen painted in the Jaws queue.

What we can deduce –

* IFB = International Food Building, which is the restaurant between Animal Actors and Simpsons.

Gambling/Games is/are the predominate theme this year.

The time period and location of the icon is possibly the Big-Band (1920’s-30’s) and probably NOT Vegas.

We are having some sort of “Casino/Gambling” house this year.

* A 9th house is NOT happening this year. There has been no casting for a 9th house, no physical clues to a 9th house, no leaks of a 9th house. (It has been announced, but we can deduce it).

We are getting something that is heavily influenced by Spanish culture or history.

Our mutual friend's clues seem to imply Saws and Steam house

The items in the Jaws queue seem to imply the Saws and Steam house.

The logical place for The thing would be a sound stage (namely SS 22)

What we know isn’t happening –

We aren’t getting a literature-based event this year.

* Cindy as an icon this year.

Major Rumors and Spec (Not confirmed) –

“Death” will play a major part this year (stems from a perceived clue from Catacombs last year).

* There will be a WWI house in in the Soundstages.

* Character Code-Name Spec – All character code-names can be found at HHNRumors

* General Spec says that “Sprung 2” is our Casino house, although that is not confirmed or a consensus.

General Thoughts and Spec –
Not all of the characters we know from the past were actually Icons, which means people (Monsters? Spirits? Zombies?) may come back.

The Queen of Spades has a dagger and red hair… take that for what it’s worth.

The Ace of Spades is known as the “Death Card.”

* Everyone’s Fate is Death.

Not all the houses and scarezones have to tie in with the theme.

It takes two cards to hit 21.

"Lady Luck" has been speculated as the icon.

”Official Clues” From a Mutual Friend –

”In heaven, the three with whom I would talk? Eoin Colfer, Steve Jobs and Peter Falk.” – The accepted interpretation of the riddle is that, “All die in the end,” or, “All meet the same fate.” There can be more to it, but that has yet to be confirmed.

"One stands to lose their body's bounty, If they return to God's Own County" - Implies Yorkshire (the only place called God's own COUNTY. Saws and Steam took place in New Yorkshire. The "body's bounty" would be blood or the flesh in general. In Saws and Steam they extracted water from bodies.

Going to copy/paste my response to your similar post from Rumors last week, since I never saw a response.

The "no returning concepts" mantra pertains to old Icons and the franchises prior to HHN XX. Anything from HHN XX is fair game (although I was definitely expecting Catacombs more than SnS).

We were told there would be a long break before seeing more movie houses, but I suppose sometimes promoting your company's film when it fits with the event might win out. I will be quite disappointed if that particular rumor is true. A&D could come up with something far more creative, and I'm afraid it will just be a rehash of the previous house.

(And before people respond: Yes, I know the rumor is now confirmed)

Excited for the theme... could not be less excited for the Thing. Very disappointed that we're starting the event with a repeat. Not surprised, but disappointed.

I speculate people will be disappointed about Thing..oh wait..

I do believe its slightly contradicting with the whole 'New Era' phase, but then again, the movie is a prequel.

Is that truly different/new enough though?

I know people all around are upset about the Thing maze so I will add my two cents for whatever it's worth, and I know it is not much so here we go.

As for The Thing being a rehash, I feel that it won't be, or better stated they are not treating it as such. The Thing Assimilation was directly related to the film as we all know, and we know the films location. With this maze ( The Thing ) is a different film altogether. New film, new maze. So I wouldn't call it a rehash just because of the title. It is not The Thing revised, revisited, 2, etc.

Members of A&D did in fact say that they would stray from films. However they too have to answer to someone and to make a long story short, you have The Thing. Plus imagine yourself answering the same questions again and again. I grow tired of watching them answer them over and over and see the pain in their faces. So they go with the generic answers.

Also someone here predicted the coming of Wolfman before it was announced and strangely enough we had for the first time ever a maze before a film release. Universal saw the success of such actions and felt that it makes marketing sense having people walk through the " Film ". thousands of people, walked through and saw the film.

I personally don't like to debate as they can turn all shades of ugly so I by no means am trying to stir up the thread, I am just stating what many feel and won't say. We all love the event, and mazes based on Universal Horror films are great for the parks. So love it or leave it but in the end it is about choices, people will never be satisfied with everything all the time.

I love the idea of The Thing maze as I can't wait for the film as well.

My own interpretation of the code-names in holiday speculation then would vary a bit from Heather. Woodteeth would not be tooth fairy. Tooth fairy is not associated with a holiday. Rather, woodteeth and top hat together make Washington and Lincoln for President's Day.

I agree that dwarf would be Leprechaun for St. Patrick's Day, and egg and grass both point to Easter. (unless grass means 4/20!!!!)

Love matches Valentine's

But how then do watch and mighty fit in? Well Watch could symbolise Father Time for New Year's.

And Mighty? You got me there. hmmmm the mighty appetite we have for Thanksgiving dinner???? Mighty Mouse as a balloon at Macy's Parade??? Mighty Fireworks for the 4th of July?

When I first thought of the spec, I was thinking more along the lines of imaginary characters that kids are told are real.

But with the holiday house idea taking hold the presidents make more sense.

Ideas for Mighty: The Great Pumpkin, a bald eagle or Uncle Sam.

As for Watch, see Legacy's post.

Watch can be a noun or a verb.

EDIT: I am still leaning toward SS23A for The Thing. The roles seem to fit better for it.

One more edit: I want Mighty to be the mighty groundhog.

I agree and as I've said before somewhere on this forum: I'm saying 23A for the Thing.

Not sure a response is needed. My point is this, some in the fan community tend to take on the role of arbitrators of what is and what isn't legitimate speculation or possibilities surrounding the event. We supposedly had it from the direct source that there would be no movie based houses and an entirely "new" era. Both are moot now that a house based on The Thing franchise has been announced.

Again, I'm thrilled with the Thing return. But, shutting down speculation doesn't always work in our favor.

Now, regarding the info on FB regarding the house. People really need to slice through the marketing BS that's always on overload with the event. I'm really hopeful they will improve on the Thing and think they will but it's going to be similar to Assimilation. It can't not be.

Just thought maybe my post would have shed some light on why fans were taking A&D's word to heart... I was surprised to see a second post with the same sentiment on this forum. Fans believed A&D when they said "no movie houses." I'm sure A&D meant it when they said: "no movie houses." But then marketing said: "You're doing a movie house" and A&D had to go back on their word. Not the fans fault for believing what they were told from the creators of the event.

I agree that shutting down speculation doesn't always work in our favor, I just don't think there's a need to point fingers at those who were trusting A&D. And although it's a long shot, I suppose since this house is a prequel, they can get by on the "new" era business. I don't like it, but I understand that sometimes business wins over creativity.

I have to think that they will improve on The thing house. You know they know that The thing Assimilation wasn't the best house. Honestly I'm not sure they could do anything but improve on that house as it really wasn't one of my favorites to say the least. I'm not excited but at the same time I'm not pissed off.

I wonder why Universal does not try to create a movie franchise from an HHN house. Nobody who was not willing to go to HHN in the first place will say, "Now I must go, they have The Thing!" Nobody who is there will be more likely to see the movie after the house. If they can create character(s) that do well, create a movie off of that!

More than you think, and more than A&D like as well.

Best house is matter of opinion. However being that most if not all of A&D members enjoy classic horror films I would venture to guess that they like Assimilation being there.

So the "The Thing" is confirmed, great, now can we please move on to other speculation? All discussion related to "The Thing" Facebook posting by universal will be removed. Also Speculation thread is not for your opinion of the event itself in such a matter that steers away from what was previously being discussed. You are more then welcome to create your own thread about the event in the General HHN Discussion. Sorry but with the event drawing near, we need to be a bit more firm when it comes to keeping threads like this organized.
