HHN XXI Speculation

You kinda hint at how I've been interpretting the who "New Era" thing, Timeout.

The "New Era" started last year. The quote for each year applies to that year, not the next one. It was said in an interview last year (I think with TJ) that they were looking for new franchises. That means that Catacombs, Havoc, ZAP and Legendary Truth (the only three new "brands" new to the event itself) (and I'm refering to LT as a house, not an ARG) are all available to show back up. This year isn't the year they are starting fresh; last year was. The only things we know for a fact AREN'T returning are the Icons, the Body Collectors, Shadybrook, Scary Tales, and any other "franchise" houses or characters. They all received their farewells.

The only toss-ups on if they're eligible for a return is Fear and Cindy. Fear possibly will return for continuity's sake. Cindy is a bit more ambiguous. Her canon is from the last era, but she was "introduced" to the general public with the new era. I think it's possible we will see an "adult" version of her in some capacity. It could simply be Screamhouse Trilogy from the old era. Orfanage as a prequel. "New Cindy" Trilogy in the new era. Though I think it's unlikely, it's still possible.

The New stuff from last year is all eligible to return. To say that the stuff from last year is off-limits is not reading the new era correctly. Year zero counts here.

(Part of me wants to start a thread that focuses only on the "New" brands from last year and what we would like to see return... if the Mods would be okay with it. It would all be spec.)

To the building projection "rumor" (there we go, our first rumor), it wouldn't surprise me. The equipment is already installed for 360 shows, so all it would take is video production. I only hope that they don't use the same video on all the buildings (like they do for 360). That might require more infrastructure, because I'm not sure how their media-servers are configured for the multiple projections.

But then, they don't have money for queue videos... let's see if they'll spend the money to produce these.

I miss the 360 show from '06. I thought for sure they would have done it last year.

They have done the building projkections just about every year... just not to the scale of those cool videos online. I've always wanted to see an impressive 3d pojection done on the arches at the gate... In fact I recall (believe it was B-Square) speculated on it last year.

Yeah I won't say names but he is a head honcho himself came to where I was at at that time, right when I first started the Dogs Of War Audio Show, and talk to the head director of that location, whom I then went to talk to and he showed me those videos, saying that it was an idea and plan that they had.

I agree. And I checked the video out, those projections are quite extraordinary. I believe this would be a great investment for Uni because it adds some aspects that are very difficult to do with construction outside of houses and zones, and just as you said, the front arches. This would be.a great addition/replacement to the projections on the orbs and buildings already in the park!

I just checked hhnrumors and there is a link to a building permit for HHN construction.

Yes! For anyone wanting to check out the premit, Chad has posted it up and you can view it HERE! Nothing in the way of hints, just the fact that FAKE Productions is involved again!

Oh, good. A much better ending to a truly lousy day.

If I remember correctly, 2007 only used them to display static images or repeating clips. 2006 was the only time they actually used the balls for a show.

I remember seeing some horror movie clips while waiting in line for Vampyr: Blood Bath. Either way they did use them in 07 for whatever reason and they haven't used them since.

From my understanding, the maintenance on the spheres is a nightmare. Some one literally goes inside of them in order to repair any faulty equipment and those suckers evidently get, wait for it, hot as balls (pun, obviously, intended). Running the projection systems inside those things for an event where, honestly, they would just amount to ambient noise and light for 80% of the guests isn't very cost effective. People go to HHN to be scared and the Cinespheres don't help in that in all. Again, they don't allocate the money for individual queue videos anymore. I can't imagine them allocating it the production of videos that would displayed on something that is a pain to maintain and few people outside of returning guests would take the time to watch.

Even the building projections, as cool as they would be, probably wouldn't be displayed anywhere other than the gates. The gates get the most attention as far as structures go. The MiB building might get something, but it would again be money allocated to something management probably doesn't consider important. The only way I could see it being used is in conjunction with a Scare Zone, which most likely won't happen in World Expo.

Again, my frustration is simply that we were able to have these little perks before (we had some great building projections of Mary & The Usher) yet we don't get them now. Things are being removed and nothing being added to compensate, while ticket prices are still increasing. Very worrisome...

thanks so much for the explanation,

your posts are pretty awesome, cool.

It does suck for us, I'll admit. There is a lot to be said about how projections can bring visuals to life. However, I'm certain management (and to an extent A&D itself) views projections inside the part that are not directly related to a scarezone as trivial embellishments that are the first to get cut during budget restraints. Most guests attend only one night during the run and they are only concerned about scarezones and houses (and even some don't care about those). The repeat guests are the ones who appreciate icing like projections on walls and little whispers in dark corners, and I believe they give them when they can. But if I have to decide between a new effect for a house (and last year had several) or a projection on building, I'll take the effect every time.

Operating a projector all night for a month can get expensive. A high-powered lamp for an industrial projector can cost up to a thousand dollars. That money can buy a whole lot of make-up and lumber.

Thanks. I realize I can come across as fairly jaded, but I know enough people who work on an operational level in the parks to understand where the "hard cuts" come from. Also, I've been "designing" houses and scarezones for my portfolio since working the event in 2002. I always try to limit my ideas to ones that are truly feasible and in line with what Universal has done in the past. It allows me to view the event from, what I believe, is a more realistic standpoint of what can and cannot be done. There's a lot to be learned in attempting to view the event as a manager or director. It really changes your perception of how everything is run.

At the end of the day, logistics and practicality are more important than what we really want. I would love to see no safe-zones throughout the park and props strewn throughout. But it won't happen. So, I look at what CAN be done.

Looks like the game is about to start.

Emeric Belasco's latest tweet:

"Are you ready to play? Let's roll the dice and see what comes up."

Black Jack

It's HHN 21. "Roll the dice," implies gambling.

Why none of us thought of a gambling theme for 21...

But you don't roll dice when you play black jack. What game involves dice? Oh Craps!

hmmmmmmmmmmm, Snake Eyes? Boxcars? Eight the hard way?

Or maybe we shouldn't think of Casino dice games at all?

Dungeons and Dragons anybody?

Also Black Jack brings up a very disturbing thought...

Homey%20the%20Clown.png

...but Homey don't play that!

Ahahahahaha. <3 you Dr. Jimmy. And Legacy, I like your train of thought. Maybe there's more to this "game" business than just our usual rumor-hunting antics. =) I think this could be taken in some interesting directions, based on the theme of gambling. Perhaps not so literal as the actual games. But... gambling with our lives by entering HHN... I could see that going somewhere.
